UNC Departments or Programs of note

S an OOS has been accepted to UNC-CH Honors as well UW Madison. I am aware that UNC's Journalism and Business school are well regarded. As he is all over the place on prospective majors, any input on well regarded departments or programs from current students, alums or parents would be helpful.

In particular thoughts on the Math, chem and stats depts as well as any focusing on international relations would be helpful. Thanks

I'm a bio mjr/chem minor at UNC (definitely NOT in the honors program). Chemistry at UNC is hard. The professors here (or at least quite a few that I've met) seem to be here for their research, not teaching undergrads, there's a lot of research going on and undergrads seem to be working in quite a few really cool projects with professors with that and get to be quite involved. The undergrads in the chem dept are some of the nicest people you'll meet...we know how to have fun and we know how to get down to business too (ok maybe I'm a little biased about the last bit since I'm in the chem frat) Making connections in the dept seems to be key...I know that quite a few professors here have had a change of opinion since I've joined the chem frat...to them I'm now "dedicated to chemistry" and worthy of talking to them.

UW is better in chemistry and math. They are even in stats. Both are Top 30 in all those but UW is Top 15 in all.

LEDad: I sent you a pm.

UNC does not have International Relations per se. It has an International Studies major (not the same thing) and that is a curriculum, not a full scale department. There is also the option of majoring in Public Policy Analysis with a concentration in International Relations.

LEDad - Also...UNC School of Public Health which is ranked #1 out of all public universities and tied for #2 overall (public and private) with Harvard.

The undergraduate degree, BSPH, is offered in the following areas:

Biostatistics
Environmental Sciences and Engineering
Health Policy and Administration
Nutrition

Read here for Masters, PhDs and Dual Degrees offered...

Is it feasible to double major in two of those areas like biostats and health policy?

I think a better question is: how hard is it to be accepted to the program where you can get a bachelors degree from the school of public health?
