This was the Big One. D21 accepted in-state, 4.0 UWGPA, 4.7 WGPA, 8 AP’s. Test optional. Top 15 in a class of nearly 400. I thought her essays were strong and I assume her rec’s were as well. Good but not outstanding EC’s. Most of her decisions are outstanding (9/12), but with this one in the bag, the rest are gravy.
It’s amazing how many super intelligent and accomplished students on this thread don’t get accepted. I can’t even get my head around how smart so many of you are. You will have many great options and will excel wherever you end up. Take it from someone who got shot down by UNC many moons ago. Good luck to everyone.
Accepted! In-state, #1 class rank, varsity sports for all 4 years, a lot of clubs, 30 ACT, senate page, gov school, and youth group. Got into honors Carolina and a summer program fellowship!!!
Congrats to your daughter! UNC OOS is tough - due to legislative cap where they admit only 18 percent and this 18 percent includes athletes and legacies. It is the only school on my son’s list that I think could have swayed him from his in state options - he knew it was a reach despite strong stats and good essays and was expecting not to get in It is a great school and my NC nephew who is there loves it!
MY OOS DD was waitlisted
she applied to Biomedical Engineering
36 ACT
3.98 UW, 4.7 Weighted GPA
11 AP’s plus 4 dual enrollment classes
JV athlete
2 part time jobs
leadership in large club at her high school
summer enrichment programs every year for engineering and medicine.
My OOS son was waitlisted. I expected a rejection as we’re from the midwest and people from our area really don’t go to UNC or get into UNC. Maybe 1/year get in. This is great news, even if it doesn’t come to fruition. We were bummed when his on campus visit was cancelled last March and maybe he will get a chance this March to get his visit in.
Congrats to all who did get firm acceptances today!
UNC shoots for 88% In state and 12% OOS. for every student over 12% that is out of State, NC schools lose funding. I have looked it up several times and that is what it said. Wait list for OOS will be completely dependent on how many OOS students accept. zero OOS might get in off of waitlist in years where the matriculation of OOS accepted students is high
Accepted: In-State, Top 7% of class, Orange County Public School, No test scores, 45 college credits, 4.0UW/4.5W GPA.
Lots of volunteer work with local political organizations (including UNC affiliated groups), solid essays, recommendation from UNC Young Dems President.
Good luck to everyone who got waitlisted. I am SO sorry to all who didn’t get in. You will do amazing things, and I know that for a fact. To those accepted– I’ll see you in the Fall!!!
