UNC merit scholarship amounts and chances/stats?

Posted in Financial forums but cross posting here to see if any response…

Can anyone share $$ amounts & numbers of in-state merit awards listed on UNC’s site - not the big ones like Morehead or Robertson - but the others…

Carolina, College Fellows, Colonel Robinson, Old Well, Founders, Pogue, Tar Heel Merit

Like are there two of each scholarship awarded or 20? And are they $1K or $8K? That sort of thing.

And admissions just pulls these from the normal UNC application - no further applications required?

My hs junior child has decent stats and am wondering chances.

Thanks!

I’m interested too. My daughter had great stats and didn’t get anything other than loans from UNC.

Bumping this thread to see if any response.

My current UNC Senior Phi Beta Kappa, received zero merit from UNC.

My kid had incredible stats and got nothing from UNC, but she did get several from outside sources which have added up. Don’t rule those out. Some are for all 4 years.

Their modes of aid are outdated.

hi! I received the Blue Sky Scholarship for this admissions cycle. I am not committed to UNC yet but it is probably in the top 2 or 3 if not my top choice (and honestly, before the $$ and actually exploring the school, it definitely wasn’t.)

the scholarship:

  • I didn’t apply for it, I had never heard of the program before I opened my acceptance letter
  • The letter said I was chosen off of my “outstanding academic potential, hard working spirit, and strong sense of responsibility”
  • It seems that this scholarship is mostly for middle class families in NC (my family makes about $160k/yr, my EFC was $35k)
  • The actual money amount:
    –$7,500/yr scholarship
    –$2,500/yr work study
–$2,500 one time grant for research or study abroad
    –All together, $42,500
  • I don’t know how the scholarship was chosen or how many people received it, but I don’t know anybody else who got it of the many people I know who got into UNC

Stats:

  • In state, competitive public high school in Wake county
  • 35 act, 3.97 UW gpa, 4.63 weighted, IB diploma program + lots of APs
  • Most “flashy” EC was a prestigious study abroad scholarship from the government, I did study abroad and language learning for 2 months on this program
  • Was also a dedicated volunteer at a local charity, pres. of 2 clubs, member of 2 others, and an internship + part time job
  • I think my essays were pretty good and LORs pretty good as well, main common app essay talked about very unique academic interest, other essays discussed experience abroad and my identity
  • Also accepted to Honors Carolina + Acc. Research Program
  • Applied as a global studies major but I will probably double major in that and public policy

If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out!
