PLEASE TELL ME IF I AM A GOOD CANDIDATE OR NOT FOR UNC!

OSS at UNC-CH is tougher than most people realize. Don’t be fooled by looking at UNC-CH admission score ranges. They include both ISS and OSS. You are competing for one of the scarce OSS class slots. Get your scores up (shoot higher than you are currently thinking). Definitely take the ACT. The science section might help you given your background. Shoot for 33-34. Take as many APs as possible and do well on the exams. UNC is very generous with AP credits. I came in with 35 credits from APs. Is your GPA unweighted?

It is weighted, they don’t supply us with an unweighted average but from loosely calculating it its around a 95.
And I will aim for a higher ACT score and also SAT score since I am also retaking that.
APs are very competitive at my school and due to budgeting there are limited seats. I am in all the APs I could have gotten into.

Your grades and EC’s seem pretty impressive, but your test scores are an issue. I think you’ll have a great chance if you can get them up to the 2200/34 range. I’m a little curious as to why Chapel Hill is your dream school though, considering the distance and its lack of an engineering program (I’m assuming you are somewhat interested in that field, seeing as you go to an
“engineering high school”)

OK, I believe a 95 unweighted is competitive given the honors and AP course load. I like the long term commitment to some organizations and the leadership roles. Start thinking about the essays now! #1 short term impact … again … improved standardized test scores. Since UNC-CH is your dream school, reduce your stress level and apply EA. Check out the deadlines for applications and scholarships…they are early.

As much as I am a huge UNC-CH advocate, please don’t put all of your hopes in one school. The top 25 schools are all very competitive to get into. I was accepted into several, waitlisted for others and flat out turned down by a few, and I couldn’t tell you why one vs. the other. You will probably have a similar experience.

However, if you do get accepted in UNC-CH, coming from your area I can attest … UNC-CH is a fantastic place to go to school. People are so friendly and school spirited here … it’s just an unbelievable environment. You will have to get used to complete strangers saying “hi” to you as you walk across campus though … Good luck!

I am not interested in engineering! My high school is the best in the area and it just so happened to be engineering. I want to end up in dental school one day! And I am trying my best to get my SAT scores up and I hope to do even better on the ACT that I originally expected.

Yes I was going to apply EA. I know all the deadlines and everything. And I know that the chances of getting in are small especially from out of state but I will never know unless I go for it! If I don’t get in I have another DREAM school (Johns Hopkins) and plenty of REACH/SAFETY. Thanks though!

I am a freshmen at UNC from long island. pm and I’ll give you a lot of good info
