Sorry if this causes confusion- but I seemed to have heard somewhere that if you are given any merit scholarship to UNC and you are OOS, they will consider you in-state and give you in-state tuition?

I checked the financial aid website and saw that for the Carolina Scholars Awards Program and the Colonel Robinsons Scholarship in-state recipients get a monetary amount but OOS students get "an award equivalent to the cost of tuition, fees, room and board." Does that mean a full ride??

Two different issues that are now unrelated.

That “in state” designation was a loophole in the state legislation that was repealed last year. It was used by the administration to increase the number of OOS students from the 18% mandated by state law to approximately 20%. It applied to all students on full scholarships including recruited athletes.

The Carolina and Robinson scholars get the financial equivalent of a full ride…there is no stipend for living expenses or travel but most other costs of attendance are included in the award. As you would guess, these awards are highly competitive.
