I am a UNC fan. I love UNC's campus. I have lived in Raleigh my entire life. I don't like bricks. I don't think that NCSU's student body can compare, intellectually, with UNC's (from the one class I have taken there).

That said, I want to be an engineer. I think I would like to do BME, but I am not entirely sure. Does anyone know how NCSU Honors is regarded? Is it reputable? I just cant decide because I don't know how much of an advantage being in NCSU UHP really is and, also, how much I would be giving up across the board (besides engineering) in other programs. I am fairly certain I will double major in Economics.

I know I will love being at UNC, because I have been a fan all my life. I'm not so sure about NCSU. I don't know what to do, does anyone have an opinion?

I guess what I'm looking for is justification for choosing UNC over NC State. Thanks in advance.

UNC, my brother is a senior at the NC State Design program and tells me that most people drop out of the honors program there because it is such a joke.

I looked closely at NCSU and was fairly involved with some Youth leadership programs through the school's extension program but could never get over the fact that the main campus is fairly hideous looking and the much touted "Centenial Campus" just looks like a business park without much college atmosphere.

At first glance I thought this was a no-brainer. UNC. I VERY seriously considered attending NCState for a different reason, but I was not at all impressed by any program but the engineering one. When I visited, every engineering person I met not only seemed very intelligent, but also very passionate about the program. If you want to be a biomedical engineer, or any other engineer for that matter, go to NCState.

HOWEVER...you are only a senior in high school and unless you totally understand what an engineer does and you KNOW without a doubt you want to be an engineer, you will probably change your mind (numerous times). I would say don't pass up UNC, an internationally known institution, for NCState, one that is not as highly regarded (but no doubt, still an excellent institution).

You're from Raleigh, so you, of course, know all about both institutions. Go with your gut. Go with where you think you will be happiest. Maybe the fact that you are looking for justification to attend UNC means that you really DO want to go there, and that alone is all the justification you need. It's 4 years of your life, not just a bridge or a stepping stone to the next level. (I have not met someone who did not love attending NCState, so I don't mean you will be unhappy there)

I would definately consider it seriously. You're more likely to get a decent job out of college if you go to State, but Carolina's prestige may help you with Grad School apps and what not.

You're right; and I bet it would be easier to transfer to State than it would be to transfer to Carolina. I plan on attending graduate school, so I think Carolina would be the better place for me. I figure if I get a job right out of college, I won't want to come back to school for a Masters.

So, barring any monumental change of heart, I'll be a Tarheel next year :).

Thanks everyone for your input. I really appreciate it.
