Hi,
I'm currently a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and I'm miserable here. I'd like to transfer out, but I need to find another school that I can afford. Two of the obvious alternatives are the University of Northern Colorado and Colorado State University. Which of these schools is better? Would you recommend something else instead?
Thanks

What don't you like about CU Boulder?

A lot of things.
For one thing, I just don't fit. I've grown up in Boulder, and it's just not my kind of place. I think I might like a more urban setting. I'm really into hiking, but that's really the only thing Boulder offers me. I'd like to be somewhere with a better art atmosphere.
I'd also like a smaller setting.I feel that the lecture/test format of the classes isn't great for me. First semester I had four paper-intensive classes. I got two A's and two A-'s without much difficulty. Second semester I had all test-intensive classes. I ended up dropping one of the classes, and getting C+'s in the other two, despite having worked hard in those classes.
Also, this is a party school, and I'm somewhat alienated by that.
I'm technically open option, though I've been planning on declaring an English/Environmental Studies double major. However, I'm reconsidering the Environmental Studies major, and considering going into something else (possibly sociology). English is my main interest, but I'm concerned about career opportunities.

Would either Colorado State or U Northern Colorado address your dislikes?

Sorry...I don't know much about the schools to offer advice.

But, IMO, Colorado State/Ft. Collins doesn't seem like it would be a much different environment from what you have at CU.

you definitely aren't going to find what you're looking for in either CSU or UNC (and by UNC, i assume you're referring to Greeley, not Chapel Hill).

if i were you, i would stick it out at CU-boulder and see if it gets better. as much as you dislike it, boulder's pretty much the cream-of-the-crop in CO. sure, the next 3 years might suck, but a boulder degree is worth a lot more than a CSU degree or, for god's sake, a UNC degree.

if you really want to get out of boulder, then it sounds to me like UC-denver is the best match for you. look into it, it'll probably fit like a glove, based on your complaints. on the other hand, employers won't be very impressed by the degree.

Colorado College sounds good for you, if you can afford it.
