University of Colorado Boulder v University of North Carolina Wilmington(Odd comparison, I know)HELP

I was accepted to both these schools but am mostly interested in attending CU Boulder in the fall. If somebody could provide some points supporting why CU may be a better school than UNCW or provide some highlights from both schools that would be very much appreciated. I admit, I need to argue why CU Boulder is superior to UNCW, if my parents are to allow me to go.

Thanks!

bump

How much does each cost, subtracting any scholarship/grant you got? What’s your parents’ budget? How much in loans did you expect to take?

If you can’t find points supporting CU on your own, it’s probably going to be UNCW…

@MYOS1634, cost is not a factor. It is more about academics and what the school can provide for me.

CU Boulder: First of all, it is Boulder, CO. Have you seen pictures? Have you visited? One of the most beautiful campuses and settings. Academically it is very strong in many areas. What do you want to study? Have you compared your possible major offerings at both schools? If cost is not a factor, I can’t see NOT going to CU… unless they don’t offer your major, or if there’s some way that UNCW’s course offerings in your major far outshine CU’s (which is hard to imagine). Good luck!

@jbeansmom, thanks for the response. I am undecided - one thing i know I want to at least minor in is Film which I know both schools are good at but I like what I have seen out of CU. I may major in psychology but am wholly uncertain at this moment in time. Do you think academically one is better than the other?

jbeansmom: if Op’s planning to major in film or in marine biology, it’s pretty easy to imagine :p

Academically, both have strengths and overall are academically similar (UNCW is among the top universities in the UNC system). The main differences are size of student body and environment (mountain + city, or beach + college town/resort). CU is a research university and a higher percentage of high achievers, but UNCW is strong all around and has fewer low achievers.

OP, here are some numbers so that you can make the comparison.

CU: 25,000 undergrads
UNCW: 12,000 undergrads

CU : 95% freshmen live on campus, 28% upperclass students
UNCW: 79% freshmen live on campus, 33% upperclass students

CU: 42% classes have fewer than 20 students, 21% have 40 or more
UNCW: 35% classes have fewer than 20 students, 14% have 40 or more

CU: 41% graduate in 4 years
UNCW: 49% graduate in 4 years

CU: 3.6 with 39% HS GPA for admitted freshmen
UNCW: 3.9, with 74% above 3.75

CU: 57% score between 24 and 29 on the ACT, with 17% above 29
UNCW: 55% score between 24 and 29, with 4% above 29

CU: 14% score below 400 in CR, 10% score below 400 in math
UNCW: 5% score below 400 in CR, 2% score below 400 in math

@MYOS1634, interesting stats you provide. Would you mind telling me the source of those - just curious.

University of Arizona Versus CU Boulder? Which one would you recommend?
