UNC vs Emory vs Cornell

My daughter’s top three choices are below and she would appreciate any insight/guidance in selecting between these three:

UNC - Honors Carolina, Accelerated Research

  • Major: Public Health/Nutrition on premed track
  • Pros: Research opportunity, assured public health program, Local
  • Cons: Large school, Most kids from my school go there so hard to differentiate
  • Costs: In state

Emory: Oxford Dean Scholar

  • Major: Human health on premed track, 2 years at oxford, 2 at emory
  • Pros: Academic strength, least expensive, not too far (5 hrs drive)
  • Cons: Premed rigor, did not get any upfront research opportunity
  • Costs: Full tuition scholarship so only have to pay room and board

Cornell: College of Human Ecology - Selected as Rawlings Cornell Research Scholar

  • Major: Nutritional Sciences in CHE on premed track
  • Pros: Research , Academic strength
  • Cons: Premed Rigor, Weather, farther, most expensive
  • Costs: Full pay although she gets 8K for summer research as part of Rawlings scholar

Emory free, UNC cheap (presumably easily affordable given that you are full pay at Cornell).
I think Emory a winner - if she is pro-active she will find her research opptys.

I would eliminate Emory University due to the requirement that the student spend the first two years at Emory’s Oxford campus which seems to be comparable to a small high school in a boring location.

UNC is the outstanding opportunity among the student’s options due to her major for which UNC is highly respected. Also, may be opportunities to study at Duke as UNC & Duke may–if I recall correctly–work together in this field.

Cornell is an excellent second choice among the three options.

In my view, the Emory offer is not attractive at all even with a full tuition scholarship for the reason stated above.
