I am applying to all three of these schools, and wanted to see if anybody here could offer me some insight on which one might be the best fit/option for me. For reference:
I intend to study Political Science or IR
I am an NC resident, but I live in Chapel Hill and have reservations about staying in the same town for college
I am applying EA to UNC and UR
I have a 4.36 GPA (3.77 Unweighted), 32/33ss ACT, am 53/199 in my class, am president of my schools MUN Club and am an active participant in theater (and I would like to continue these ECs in college)
Thanks in advance for the advice!
William and Mary is known for its academic rigor and perhaps a little more say, sedate experience. Richmond is beautiful. Small and pretty preppy. Heart of southern capital. Excellent school. UNC is a big diverse university. In terms of educational opportunities. They are all excellent. Delivered in very different environments.
^ Agree that all are excellent academically.
FWIW, URichmond is about 80% OOS undergraduate students, and when I visited there a couple of years ago I recall hearing that a significant part, if not a majority, of its undergraduates are from Pennsylvania and NJ, and elsewhere in the mid-Atlantic area. W&M has about 70% of its undergraduates from Virginia; UNC-CH has 82% of its undergraduates from North Carolina.
UNC-CH has about 19,000 undergraduates; W&M has around 6300 undergraduates; URichmond has about 3000 undergraduates.
Insofar as leaving Chapel Hill, sometimes “the grass is greener” elsewhere; and it would likely do you good from a personal development perspective to go away for university.
