Clearly my sat writing score is subpar so my essays will probably be average.

Getting really funny and nice stat teacher for rec.

Thanks for reading all this =)

Dude you’re instate.

Yup, im in state.
So what do you think my chances are?
Do I compare with ur UNC '14 stats?

Haha. Besides your SAT score, your stats are significantly better than mine. Anyway, your stats are better than most in-state people I meet here too, so I’d imagine your chances are very good.

Do you think i should just do UNC EA and if I get in I contract a bad case of senioritis for the rest of the year or do you think i potential for like Duke or some other school. I’m pretty sure my SAT score is gonna be at least 2100 because I had an english epiphany at the end of last year which blew my mind and that SAT score is from over a year ago.

I’d never recommend getting a bad case of senioritis. UNC could revoke admission. Also, keep the option of going to Duke open. Its a great university.

Is the 50k a year even worth the extra stuff because isn’t UNC like the most bang for your buck in America.

Haha. I pay 43k a year for UNC, so I’m not the right person to ask.

Dang, I thought UNC was cheap, ok thanks for all the help!

It is, for you. I’m an international student.

The 50k private vs 15k public only really applies to families with really high incomes. If you’re middle class, for example earning <100k, you’ll probably pay as much to go to Duke as you will UNC.

It’s cheaper for me to go to UNC than Duke, in state. I didn’t qualify for any financial aid, period, so it’s something along the lines of 17,000 for UNC versus 50,000 for Duke. I mean, I would apply to Duke too, and see what financial aid both schools offer you, but I personally don’t know anyone in-state who would have paid the same amount at Duke as they would have at UNC (not to say that there aren’t cases where that happened, of course!).

Yeah, my parents definietly make more than $100,000.

I’d go to Duke, but thats just me. Apply to both, and visit both campuses, if you haven’t already.

hahaha i go to enloe too =)
you are defitnetly in!

If you plan on living in NC after college UNC is the most bang for your buck reputation wise. Yeah, people respect Duke a bit more academically, but the prestige/cost ratio isn’t worth it in my mind to justify going to Duke.

If you want to live anywhere outside NC and the surrounding states, it might be worth going to Duke. Might. UNC is still prestigious and can hold its own, there was actually an article I think in the WSJ a few weeks back about “The Public Ivies” doing better when it comes to recruitment from major companies than top-tier privates.

In the end it all comes down to fit. UNC and Duke are both phenomenal schools, and you should go where ever you will be happiest.

The problem is I don’t think I can even get into Duke, even with a 2100 which is what I’m confident that I’m gonna get in a few days. I always though i needed 2200 which is gonna be a stretch considering I have 2020 right now.

You never really know until you apply.

http://ir.provost.duke.edu/facts/cds/CDS%202009-10.pdf</a>
A 2100 should put you in the 40th percentile.

I don’t know if you can get into Duke b/c of your uw gpa. Usually you need to be in the top 20-30 to go there. If I were you, I would apply and see, but don’t raise your hopes so high b/c it’s pretty uncertain. I talked to one of their admissions ppl and that is what they told me. Plus, if you are 50/6(whatever), then I’m sure that ppl above you must have higher and more stellar scores than you. I would highly doubt the chances and seeings that you have taken AP chinese, you might be an Asian (but if not, your chances are still slim for Duke). I would aim for your SATs to be near 2300 to pull that chance up.

Yup, I am asian so affirmative action will shiest me even more. But yeah, my unweighted GPA is low becuase i took 16 APs and 1 IB and at my school the top GPA is 5.6 with a GPA of 5 getting about rank 30. A in AP/IB is 6, A in honors is 5, and in standard is 4. FOr every grade down you just go down one number unless you fail which gets you 0.
