Unconventional High School Graduation Effect on College Applications?

Hello,

I am currently a junior and I want to graduate early so that I can study abroad in my senior year. However, this means that I will technically not be a high school student anymore by the time that college application "season" comes around. I am going to apply while I am abroad but will be using counselor/teacher recommendations and getting help from my high school.

My counselor told me that some colleges don't take applicants who are not in high school at the time of application and that I would need to email college admissions offices to make sure that I can still apply.

Summary: Junior graduating early to study abroad.

How does this impact my college application process? And will colleges be okay with a junior graduating early to study abroad? Will this help or lower my chances of getting into colleges in general?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I do not know of a single college or university in the USA that refuses applications from students who are not still in high school. You must have misunderstood your counselor. It is much easier to apply while you are in high school because you are right there on the spot and can deal with any issues immediately. Provided you have all of your paperwork lined up in advance, there is no reason to expect a lot of difficulty with your application process.
