Applying early

I'm a rising junior in high school and I was wondering what I have to do to apply early, and what are the advantages? If I apply early can I still apply my senior year?

wait, so to clarify you want to apply early as a junior?

yeah, can you do that?
Sorry but i have no idea how this early application stuff goes

i think you're getting confused

early application for colleges means u apply in the fall of your senior year, a couple months before the regular deadline of january.

if you're talking about early entrance/early college programs...then make that clear

What do you mean, applying early?

Usually it means applying by November1 of your senior year, as opposed to Jan. 1.

Unless you are planning to graduate early from high school, after your junior year. Unless you have a very strong high school record, the usual advice is don't. You'll get no point for applying as a junior, and instead, you will actually invite greater scrutiny of your transcript, with the idea that you could build a stronger profile if you stayed in high school the whole four years.

yeah i think i'm getting confused, i heard that you could apply to colleges when you are a junior, but i'm not sure.

So applying early is just early by a few months?

You can apply to college as a junior, too. If you get in, you can either skip out on your senior year and enroll as a freshman at college instead, or you can defer your enrollment so you still have your senior year and graduate with your diploma, and then you go to college.

It's much, much more difficult to get into colleges as a junior, though.

how can you do that, do you need a special form?
If you try as a junior can you try again as a senior?
And how difficult is it, cause i wouldn't mind trying

ask your guidance counselor

There's no special form. On the application, though, there's a question as to whether you are applying without expecting to earn your high school diploma soon, and if so, why you are applying early. You'll have to fill that question out.

My S graduated early from high school (at the end of junior year).
By the time he applied (SCEA) to Harvard, in October of his junior year, he was on track to complete all high school graduation requirements by the end of the year and had already 4 APs (plus two ongoing) and several college classes. Two other early graduates of his school (one to Yale and one to Harvard) had similar records.
