my noncustodial parent won't fill out the CSS Profile noncustodial parent's form. not a big surprise, but some schools won't give any financial aid until they receive that form. anyone know of any schools that will waive the form? thanks

From my experience, most colleges insist that both parents, regardless of their own agreements and reservations, are required to pay for your education. If you don't submit the form or contact the colleges and explain your problem, they will probably ask for the form or else threaten to withold all financial aid. I don't know if they definitely will withold all aid, but I guess they could.

I personally have a similar problem. I don't have current contact with my non-custodial parent and he made it clear in the past that he did not want to support my education at all. I contacted all the colleges I applied to with my situation and they all had the same response: submit a letter from a professional and/or a family friend verifying your situation and the form would be waived.

It appears the only way they'll waive the form is if you don't have any possible way to give the form to your non-custodial parent. If you tell the colleges that your parent simply does not want to fill it out, they will probably demand it anyway or give you less aid.

My recommendation is to contact all the colleges you applied to that ask for the form and explain your situation and see what they say but I am pretty sure that no college will waive it because your parent doesn't want to pay.

Also you should apply to a few colleges that only require the FAFSA, to be safe. The FAFSA doesn't ask anything about your non-custodial parent.

I have had several clients in this situation and plumcross is right. The schools will be reasonable if you can show you've made a good faith effort to get the information. Some of the schools don't even require a letter.

does this same thing go for if your other noncustodial parent has no contact with you and lives in a different country? because i left my dad off all my apps but he is still alive...somewhere. will this effect my aid?

I am in this situation too. Not only does my NC parent not want to pay for it - I haven't had contact with him since 2000. Child support(garnished by the state) stopped a year ago, and for all I know he's dead now.
