UNCSA

Congratulations to you both!

Congrats. Welcome to the new Pickles!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to bump this thread up and say if anyone in the class of 2015 auditioning for UNCSA has any questions I would be happy to try and help. I know on campus auditions are soon!

My D left Sunday to go back for the second semester, happy as a clam.

Multiple pickles on board here. Mine is a year ahead of dramamom0804’s D and also couldn’t be happier with her experience.

Pickle parents! Hard to not love the training and the price of UNCSA (or NCSA as everyone in New York City seems to still refer to it). Looking forward to Guys and Dolls in April …

Hi UNCSA people! I just auditioned on Friday, and I believe (hope) it went well. I was curious to know what exactly they normally asked during the interview…some of the questions they asked me weren’t the typical how can our training benefit you or why do you want to go here…

Hi,
My daughter auditioned at the NY Unifieds on Sunday, 1/25. She also loved her audition experience. If I remember correctly, they asked her questions about her vocal training, the acting programs she had attended, and how many years of dance she had. I had the impression they were more interested in the “triple threat” aspect of my daughter than the other acting programs she had auditioned for. My daughter considers herself primarily an actress ( hence the BFA drama route) but she can do a bit of everything. In general, she loved the audition and the program, and would be thrilled to go to UNSCA if she is accepted. We are waiting and hoping.

I can’t say enough good things about this audition experience. The info session was, well informative, and warm. The dean actually choked up when he spoke of the founding of the school. According to my daughter, they were very kind in the audition and made specific reference to both her essay and items in her recommendations when they talked to her in the interview portion. It left her feeling that, admitted or not, they really took the time to know and understand her and her goals. As a parent, I cannot ask anything more from an audition experience. I am sure she would be over the moon to be admitted, but even if that isn’t in the cards for my D, i remain completely impressed with this program and the heart of the people running it!

Yardley – its not surprising that she got more questions about vocal/dance training than most acting schools since they incroporate more of that into the program than most. However, I would call them plus factors rather than requirements. There are people who get in who aren’t particularly strong singers or dancers at least before they get there …

ActingDad, I will take any and every “plus factor” I can get!

Hi, I am wondering if some of the UNSCA parents or students have a sense of how much merit aid can be given at UNSCA. If my daughter were lucky enough to get in, I was wondering if they offer anything to help. We don’t live in NC, so the rates are higher for out-of-staters.

I also read that UNSCA has to prioritize in-staters. Is this true? There aren’t a lot of slots to go around, and it looks like girls are capped off at 10 slots? Or am I misunderstanding this…

YardleySisa, UNCSA does give talent awards but it’s on a case-by-case basis. You wouldn’t find out the financial stuff until after March/April when you get your acceptance. All the waiting is very difficult, but hang in there!

Yesterday at the D&P interviews they mentioned that there were some merit and talent scholarships but they were on a case by case basis.

YardleySisa – class size for women is typically between 8 and 10. I used to know this off the top of my head but I think there are 11 in my D’s class. I think that overall in the school there is an objective of some number of NC students. This topic has come up before vis-a-vis drama and I’ve seen no indication that drama adheres to any quotas regarding number of NC residence students

Is anyone auditioning tomorrow at UNCSA?

My daughter is auditioning tomorrow at 4:30pm. We are just about to lay our exhausted bodies down in our room and sleep. 11 hour drives are no joke!! Age has made such a long trip seem longer than ever before! If you are there in the morning, look for the bleary-eyed, dragging trio and you will have found us! Will post her perceptions after recovering from the return trip. Anyone know how long the meeting is in the morning?

BAL!!!

Okay- QUICK- first to respond gets the “like” button clicked on your message!

Good places to eat in Winston-Salem for dinner tonight. GO!!

I think this is too late but Downtown Thai and the Village Tavern in Old Salem are good but I don’t think either one is open now. Mellow Mushroom is always good for pizza.

We ate at this sweet potato restaurant. It was really yummy.
