Hi, I was accepted to MSU undecided, but I am a bit worried about going there undecided. There are just so many majors to choose from I do not know where I would begin to look for a potential career path. Plus I am worried about academic advising, considering the fact that there are SO many students for the advisors to help. How helpful are the academic advisors and how easy is it to transfer between schools?
@scholarstudent4 - According to this report, there were 684 no-preference students enrolled at MSU, all of them either freshmen or sophomores. https://reg.msu.edu/ROInfo/ReportView.aspx?Report=CE-StuMjrUN (page 7). So you will hardly be alone. Also many students change majors, even multiple times.
Here’s a page about the resources available to no-preference students. https://www.msu.edu/dept/uud/index.html

FAQs: https://www.msu.edu/dept/uud/faq.html#time Specifically about No-Preference: “As No-Preference/Exploratory majors explore various disciplines they will also take university requirements that are applicable to all majors on campus. With good planning, you should not be “behind” by choosing the No-Preference/Exploratory option.” I don’t have specific information, but for engineering and some other technical majors I doubt this is true. The coursework is so proscribed, with required classes starting freshman year, that a No-Preference student would almost certainly be behind. For other majors, students do not really get going with requirements until junior year, so not much would be lost.
