im struggling between choosing undecided and economics for my schools. does it really affect my chances in getting in?

take for example, u. of rochester, its quite good at economics, so is it easier for me to get in if i choose undecided? or will they just take me as someone who's not serious enough..?need help

If they don't require you to declare until after freshman year, I'd say put economics. Most colleges will base your application based on which individual college you apply for... I'm biased though, my GC said it's generally a good idea if you're interested in something to list it, it shows a focus that elaborates on what you're looking into.

thanks, but do u think ur GC took in consider whether specifying a major would affect ur chances in getting in if its a rather popular major?(such as business)

I'd just pick the major you're passionate about.
I thought about undecided VS economics too, but just went ahead and selected economics.
It's just so much easier to write an essay about why you want to studying X than why you are undecided.

hahaha...thats so true...i tried writing an essay abt undecided..man..cant make it sound sophisticated enough..felt like a guy without an aim writing tat

I'm applying undecided to the University of Rochester. I said I have a focus on math/science though and why in the supplement. I didn't say what specifically within math/science. Just subject of interest as of now.

I said economics on my app, even though it's highly popular because that's where my interests are. However, I don't think it affected my application, maybe just my statement where I explained my interest.

I had heard it was easier to get into a school undecided/undeclared, but when I went to talk to someone from admissions at BU, I asked, and she told me that is completely false. In fact, it can be even more difficult to be accepted because so many people do that thinking it will be easier. Go with whatever major you're thinking about - you can always change your mind.

No, they know many/most students change their major during the first couple of years anyway. There are some situations where major can matter, but between econ and undec at UR, no.
