Undeclared to Engineering

Hi guys, I applied to UIUC under mechanical engineering but got rejected and was offered alternate majors instead. I choose undeclared and if I do plan to attend this university, my goal would be to transfer to engineering after a year. Is this feasible for me?
Hopefully, I will get a 5 on the Calc BC AP exam to skip it and I am currently taking AP Physics C (I am a high school senior). I asked some people and they said if I work hard and get good grades, I can do it. My main concern, however, is getting the prerequisites to enter the engineering program. I heard it is hard to get classes in college so I am wondering what are the chances I get all the classes needed for an intercollege transfer.

btw, the prereqs: MATH 220 - Calculus or MATH 221 - Calculus I, MATH 231 - Calculus II, CHEM 102 - General Chemistry I and CHEM 103 - General Chemistry Lab I, and PHYS 211 - University Physics: Mechanics

Those classes shouldn’t be too hard to get into, but you’ll need an A in all of them to transfer into mechanical engineering. It is even more restricted than CS.

The path from DGS, GE, IE to MechE is lined with broken dreams.

If you’re absolutely sure you want to study mechanical engineering, I would look at alternate schools.
