Hello everybody,
I’ve seen a couple of posts of people being accepted into UCI with a below 3.0 gpa. Their majors were subjects such as history. I was wondering how hard it is to get into UC Irvine when applying with the major of criminology and a 2.88 gpa.
What’s your UC GPA? Assuming you are a CA resident, you could conceivably get in with an unweighted GPA of 2.88, but I think that a 3.0 UC GPA is required for admission to any UC campus. Those who got in with anything less must have had poor freshman grades that weren’t counted toward admission, or had some heavily-weighted classes. I think there is also some special accommodation for admission if a student has very high standardized test scores. That, also, is only available for CA residents.
Pretty unlikely for a transfer and virtually impossible as a freshman applicant. Can’t really tell you more without a better understanding of your status, budget and other credentials.
The stats from UC acceptances might not bear the fact that under 2.88 GPA can get into to UCI. Is this high school or CC transfer.
high school
Maybe the weighted GPA is higher than 3.0. I think you need 3.4 UC GPA minimum for all UCs. But I think it’s cheaper to go to CC and then transfer up.
Minimum UC GPA is 3.0 to apply to a UC in-state and 3.4 for OOS. It is possible to have an unweighted GPA of 2.88 but UC GPA has to be over the 3.0 for the application to be reviewed. UCI is one UC which puts a huge emphasis on GPA, so highly unlikely that the applicant was accepted unless they had stellar essays. Recruited athlete and/or unique EC’s. If you look at the common dataset for last year, 1% of admitted applicants had an UW GPA of 3.0-3.24. 0% below 3.0.
