Hello, I will be a senior in the upcoming Fall 2007. I want to major in business, such as economics and finance. I need help to make certain decisions. I am hoping to attend in the following colleges respectively from most to least desired choices: Upenn Wharton; NYU stern, Notre Dame, and University of Michigan. I also will need an extensive financial aid. Here is my bios.
-Birth: September 18, 1989 South Korean
-Residence: Piscataway NJ Apartment
- Religion: Atheist
-Rank 6/550ish students
-GPA: 95 or higher unweighted

- School Newspaper Club in Freshman, sophmore, junior year
- French Honors Language Society
- 30 hours of volunteering at Senior Citizen Center
- Senior Year Courses: AP(BC) Calculus, AP english, AP physics, Honors Economics, Honors Business Management Organization
- 1900 SAT (780 Math, 520 Critical Reading, 600 writing) (planning to take it again in October to achieve at least 2100)
- Planning to take SAT 2 for Math II, and Physics in November
- Working at a shopping center
- Assisted my parents' business (health food store, and nail salons) and thus, had comprehensive experience in starting businesses
-Science league for 3 years (didnt win anything though)
-I am currently looking for many scholarships.

Do I have a chance in any of the colleges? I am very desperate for direction currently; for I feel that time is quickly running out. What should I do to improve my bios? Which college should I go to? Please give me some information and guide.

I would like to at least get into Stern. I am gonna cry from stress.Just praying. If God truly exists, and he has seen my terrible 17 years...he will get me accepted to Stern. But in the meantime, I gonna grit my teeth and get that 2200 on the SAT. NO doubt I will get 800 on math this time.

I'm not trying to be rude here or turn this into a religious argument, but wherever you do end up is His choice. If you don't get accepted to where you want, don't put the blame on God. Everyone has a purpose, and wherever you are put will be where God wants you to be.

Look, there is not a question in my mind that I will get 2200 plus on my sat. I have been working so hard on studying for them and as well as SAT 2 for Math and physics. Look, if I don't at least get into Stern, I am not going to college and will just simply start my own business. What I don't need right now are reasons why I will not get in. Tell me what I have to do within the next 3 months that I have left to successfully become accepted into Stern.

Raise your SAT 3-400 points.
Get straight As first semester.
Calm down so that you don't come off as a freak during your interview.
Write good essays.

Figure out how to present your ECs so they don't come off as lacking. A job, which is good. 30 hours of community service, dismal. FBLA stuff is great. And what seems to be only surface participation in the school newspaper.

I don't understand why it's Stern or no college. You want to go a top 5 program that rejects 2300+ scorers with higher GPAs and better ECs. I understand that Stern is your dream. But most posters here just want you to understand that it may not be a realistic one and you could get just as good of an education at another school (Fordham, for instance.).

I would guess that Notre Dame is out - especially if they get wind of the atheist thing. ND has changed a lot in the past few years - they're now proud of their Catholic heritage. Also, I am concerned about your "Stern or nothing" stance. I think especially with that 520 score, you should be looking at slightly less prestigious schools, and hoping for a transfer if you can prove yourself.

On the other hand, if you can bring your score up to the above stated 750+, and really play up your considerable business experience, someone might nibble.

If i get 700+ in Math 2 and Physics; get 2200 on SAT as well as do well in first semester and pour in more time in volunteer activities...will I have a shot? I need this. I always wanted to do more, but my circumstances never allowed me. If it's about the financial assistance, I will somehow make the money.

dude lol....i've never seen anyone so fervent and zealous about getting into one single school. Not getting into stern isn't the end of the world and to be honest, it doesn't seem very realistic even with your amazing business skills which shows through the extracurriculars. I suggest that you take the TOEFL-yes I know you are living in America but you need to balance out that 520 somehow and honestly, a 520 doesn't give much confidence in your ability to fully comprehend the language in a very competitive and high-paced college environment such as Stern. Retaking the SAT I will help too but you don't HAVE to send TOEFL scores if they aren't good, and if in fact you score very well on the TOEFL it shows
1. development
2. mastery of the language
which may reinforce your second SAT I critical reading score. Trust me, the TOEFL is easier, I've tutored people for it.

Also, I dont think religion would play into anything...it's not like colleges will mandate that you answer a question about what religion you are or write an essay on it, and I highly doubt they're going to call around asking the clergy and archdiocese if you are a good little Catholic boy.

But yea, good job though on your business things. I think the only thing that holds you down is the test scores. Make sure your essay is excellent as well, boost scores, and you'll have a fighting chance at stern and below...Upenn just doesn't seem realistic because of the lack of diversity in your extracurriculars. Other than the business stuff, you don't really have anything else that's competitive or that you've won awards for.

Dammit, I really didn't want to say this to not make me look like an idiot, but I skipped an entire page in critical reading by accident. Thus, the accident manifests the reason why I received such incompetent score

oh man...too nervous? In that case then, I wish you all the best! I hope you do suceed in making your dreams come true, let the magic happen, all that Disney stuff, etc. etc.

When I put something into my mind. I always and ALWAYS do it to the end. I will get 2200+ on my sat. If i do this, they Stern better accept me. I never had equal opportunity like everyone else.

Upenn Wharton: High Reach
NYU stern: Low Reach/ Reach
Notre Dame: High Match
University of Michigan: Depends on which one. Ann Arbor? if so Match
