Do they contact you if there are any problems? If the child has been called to the principles office, or if homework goes un-handed-in for an excessive period?

How much contact do you have with the dorm parents/coordinator? Do they contact you if there is a problem?

My daughter is a Freshman at St Andrew's (Del.) We get quarterly letters from her advisor about all areas of school life. We met all the teachers in October for parent's weekend and had conferences with all of them and her advisor.

We have contacted the dorm parents for particular concerns of our own and we have also called her advisor. We also have heard from the Nurses at the Health Center whenever she visits.

I feel like we have had a good channel of communication with the school, and I would expect them to contact us if any problems did arise.

My son attends Northfield Mount Hermon as a freshman this year. We get emails and phone calls from his advisor about every 4 weeks -- more often if there is a particular issue or concern. The health center notifies immediately if there are any health issues or concerns. We were not able to attend parent's weekends (we don't live close by) so each teach called us to have a phone conference in the fall. We are notified via email if there are any discipline issues -- not every time that something minor happens, but once he has acquired "3 strikes".

The communication has been excellent in my opinion -- just enough that I know what is going on, but not so much that I feel that he is being micromanaged.

Wow, Exeter's communication is far less. I think they expect the students to handle most things themselves. We do get about a letter a term from the advisor, but nothing from the teachers (other than their comments on the report card) unless we initiate contact and then the teachers all write back, and the health center only called with a question about a prescription. But my daughter hasn't had any problems either (discipline, grades, or health) so maybe there would be more contact if there were more problems.
