After being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I was recently cited for underage drinking. I will not receive it in the mail for another few weeks. Because it is my first offense, it will be expunged after several months. I’m very concerned about if colleges will see it and, if so, how it will impact my chances of college admission. I am a senior and 18 years old. I will be applying to several elite colleges such as Cornell (CALS) and Tufts RD and have applied to several colleges EA.
The citation does not reflect my typical behavior. I have never caused trouble before and am usually quiet and respectful in class, which I imagine my recommendation letters will disclose. I am planning to talk to my counselor about what my next steps should be soon.
If anyone has any tips or information, please share.
Just do the right thing from now on. As bad as it sounds, I’m sure colleges know many kids your age and even younger are drinking and even using drugs. I have never used either except Tylenol for my headache and rubbing alcohol for my cuts but will say a lot of kids at my school use illegal substances and underage drink.
That being said, I don’t understand why you would have been drinking or even doing anything remotely sketchy that might jeopardize your application process.
Dude I’m sure he already feels like crap. What’s the point of not giving him a legitimate answer?
