I met head of safety and security at Bowdoin college, Randy Nichols, an ex-Maine state trooper of 24 years. He is Very Impressive. Absolutely confers confidence that he has the kids best interest at stake, he can exercise judgement for any situation, and that he will keep any bad influences off campus. The kids love him, respect him, and rate his dept at school behind only the professors and the food. (He joked that he’s going after food for #2.) I asked him in an Admitted Students forum to address the issue raised in the Orient article. He said he did not agree with the judgement of the BPD, and he was sitting in front of the BPD commissioner the next day to address the situation. For a dad with a daughter going to Bowdoin 2023, knowing he is there, and the environment of safety and security he has created, gives me more confidence that may DD will be safe.
This is an example of a student / students being punished for doing the right thing.
I too met with Randy Nichols during the Bowdoin admit days and he talked about this situation. Definitely Brunswick’s PD got this one wrong. The students were caught up in this were doing the right thing.
just heard from some students - they said there is definitely more pressure from BPD, and partying was down this past semester (Winter/spring 2019)
