Have any of you gotten a underage drinking ticket at college? And if so, what were the consequences?

We call them AOD (Alcohol or Other Drug) violations. I got one last year for drinking and one this year for smoking. It’s really just a smack on the wrist. You’ll get generic emails from the head of campus security, the health center, and the dean of students, but they’re all just extending help so I don’t really mind. There are no real consequences for the first few AODs.

Were the cops involved in yours?

Here you just have to pay a fine. You don’t get tickets unless you’re bothering other people or breaking things, though.

I got an MIP friday night/saturday morning.
Only because I was 17,
The security officers came and told me to be careful and not do this again, but they foudn out I was 17 so they had to call the ambulance and the police.
It’s gonna be about a 100$ fine and about 200 for a course I have to take.
I might fight it though, because I didn’t get breathalyzed. ON the ticket, under BAC, it said Vomit.

But anyways if i can’t fight it, I’m on probation for 6 months then it’s off my record as long as I don’t mess up agai.

It doesn’t go on your record?

first offence you can get it off, after that, it does.

Is this going to make a company not hire you cause they see this?

I’m an RA, and at my school, they are just referred to as alcohol violations. It depends on the nature of the violation what the consequences are. For example, actually being in possession as a minor is more serious than knowingly in the presence of. Not sure what the total consequences are, but I know that once you get three you will probably at least get suspended, and 2 or more is enough to screw your chances of ever becoming a teacher.

This will vary by school. If you want to know what the consequences for alcohol/drug violations are at your school, seek that information out. I’m surprised you didn’t have some sort of information session about your school’s policy on this. People on CC can tell you all sorts of stories but you can’t take them as an example of what will happen to you, should you find yourself in the same situation.

For instance, at my school, city cops do not get involved in AOD’s. (I go to the same school as zchryevns.) At other schools, though, they may. Here, AOD’s reset after a year, but at other places, they may go on your record and stay there.

The best advice anyone on this thread could give you is to tell you to inquire about your own school’s policy. If you find that they do put violations on your permanent record at your school, that may very well have an effect on whether or not companies will hire you. Send an email to the Dean of Students or the head of campus security and ask what the school’s policy is. It’s good to be informed.

In my state (California), underage drinking is technically legal as long as you’re in a private area, but if you’re caught, you’re evidence that someone’s been providing alcohol to a minor (which is illegal unless you are a parent/legal guardian).

No, just campus security. They took down my name and student ID so others could contact me about it, but a reply was not required and nothing happened after that.
