I'm looking at schools in California right now and I want to go into a Business major - most likely International Business. But if they don't have that, Business admin is fine or marketing. I planned to apply to UCLA and UC Davis but realized they only have business economics at UCLA and managerial economics at UC Davis. Would it be a waste to apply to these schools into these programs ? I love both schools a lot so this is a huge problem for me. Are there any other schools in Cali with good business programs?

The business econ at UCLA and the managerial econ at UCD are good programs. There are a lot people in the business world (including the consulting and accounting firms) with those degrees. You can also go for an MBA after you work a few years.

USC has an excellent undergraduate business program, but being a private school, the cost is high. Alternatively, UC Berkeley’s Haas Business School, is also another excellent undergraduate bus. school. However, you cannot apply to Haas as a freshman. Haas admits mostly junior status transfers from community colleges (generally a 3.8+ GPA to get in) or from UC Berkeley (generally a 3.7+ GPA to get in). If you attend Berkeley as a freshman, there is a good chance you might not get into Haas as a junior. You would need a backup plan such as an economic degree from UC Berkeley or transfer to another school.

UC Irvine and UC Riverside are other alternatives within the UC system to get an undergraduate business degree. The competition to get in is not as keen as UCB, UCLA or USC. People I know, who want to major in some form of business, chose UCLA over UCB because UCLA’s business econ is a little easier to get into than Haas.

UCLA, UCD, and USC, are my top reach schools. I have a 3.5-3.7 (I have a 3.52 right now but some schools weigh it differently than mine). I have not received my scores for my SAT’s but I got a 1530 on my PSAT. I’ve taken honors/AP courses and college classes. I also have significant number of extra cirriculars/community service/etc. Since I’m going into business, I was guided to take twice the amount of math classes required (6/3).

Average CSU/UC GPA for SDSU is 3.82 and SAT(Math + CR) is 1152. Since Business majors are impacted, you want to have higher than average Stats. To calculate your GPA use the link but you can only use your AP classes for the extra Honors points. <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc
Also if your CSU/UC GPA is below 3.9 your chances are low for UC acceptances and you need to aim for an SAT around 1800+ for schools such as UCSC/UCI/UCSB etc. UCR has a very good business program. You will not get into UCLA or USC with your current Stats.
