undergrad economics

What is the undergrad econ program like at Cal? I know the graduate/PhD is very prestigeous, but I am wondering if that excellence trickles down into the ugrad realm.

Also, how difficult/easy is to work on research projects professors (mainly in the econ dept)

Thanks

undergrad econ major is restricted (acceptance rate is 200/300 each semester). i'm a recently declared econ student, and the classes are hard. at least the 101 series. research is available, but supply way exceeds demand, if you know what i mean. the professors are all very friendly and human... at least the ones i've had. enjoy.

I haven't had any courses with the people yet, but Berkeley's economics department is one of the top in the nation by most accounts (undergraduate, by the way).

If you take a look at the faculty bio's of the economics department, it's difficult not to be impressed.

Then you can look on the online schedule of classes and see these professors don't just teach graduate courses.

Of course, quality of professors don't always translate to quality of teaching (but it doesn't preclude it either! I'll be finding out as well how well they teach), but you can be assured that your professors are some of the best in their field.

Supply of research exceeds demand? So there is a lot of opportunities?

... or supply of undergrads exceeds the demand for research assistants...?
