I go to W&M and I plan on majoring in Linguistics. I want to go to Grad school in linguistics and my top two schools at the moment are U Chicago and Brown.

My major here is an interdisciplinary studies major, its cross listed with our English and Anthropology Department so it doesn't have that many professors dedicated to Linguistics. On top of that W&M isn't really a research university so not much research actually goes on around here. With research experience being such a big part to Graduate School admissions what do you think would be the best way to get into Grad Schools? I will be doing a Senior Research project and Honors thesis eventually but I doubt that that experience will be enough to persuade a college that I'd be qualified to research. Should I just apply to summer internships and hope that that would be enough? Does anyone have any suggestions or first hand experience coming from schools with very little research going on on campus?
