Undergraduate App State or East Carolina for Nursing

My daughter has been accepted to both App State and ECU as an undergraduate. She plans on majoring in nursing. Now she is undecided on which way to go? Any recommendations or thoughts?

My daughter just graduated from ECU in nursing in May. She had a great experience. She was also accepted to App, Wilmington and UNC-CH but App was never on her short list just for personal reasons. I think both have good nursing programs. Lots of people focus on the NCLEX Pass Rates, but both schools are good.

East Carolina’s 3-Year Average NCLEX Pass Rate 97%
Appalachian State University’s 3-Year Average NCLEX Pass Rate (2015-2017): 94%
North Carolina’s Overall 3-Year Average NCLEX Pass Rate (2015-2017): 82%
The National Overall 3-Year Average NCLEX Pass Rate (2015-2017) : 86%

I would say since both programs are good, I would consider at which school she can see herself. And maybe think about where she sees herself after graduation. Obviously nurses from local schools are popular in certain areas. ECU basically guarantees jobs at their hospital for grads who want them, I assume many schools do the same. Also when they are doing the student nursing, I would look into where the App students go. ECU students had the option of staying in the east or coming as far as Raleigh if they wanted to, just something to think about.

My child had no trouble getting a job. In the job market she did feel like some Duke grads received preferential treatment at some hospitals, but otherwise she felt equal to all other grads.

Thanks @ITBgirl we are planning to go back to App on 1/22/20 for their admitted students day. We will then plan to go to ECU whenever they have theirs. She has a big decision to make. I would like her to be at App since it’s closer to home and we know more people that go there, but I really liked the campus at ECU.
