Undergraduate Business Programs

what is the advantage of going to a school with an undergraduate business program vs some place that doesn't. Like Virginia vs. Cornell.

For what? To go into business? It depends. Usually an UG business school has internships an relationships with companies in the local area. UVA and Cornell will also have relationships with companies but they will be different if you are not in the business school.

Virginia and Cornell both have undergrad business.

If there are any advantages, it comes down to placement. Like Erin’s Dad said, at some Universities, some B-schools have internship and FT recruiting arrangements with companies that the liberal arts school at the same university won’t have. That can make a lot or sometimes very little difference in placement. The best thing to do is discuss this with the B-school placement office of the schools you are interested in. They can tell you what recruiting opportunities (both for Internships and FT) they have that are exclusive (meaning if liberal arts students can’t sign up for the interviews).

Top schools without B-schools will still have very strong placement. But, good B-schools many times have better placement than schools w/o B-schools that are outside of the “top 50”.

Again, for what? You’re not going to be able to major in accounting at a school that doesn’t offer accounting as a major, for instance.

I want to go into investment banking. But I’m talking about getting a good job in general.
