Undergraduate College

Well today as I checked my SOLAR account I noticed at the end of the Advising Planning Form that it said that I was in the undergraduate college of Human Development. Does this mean that I am going to dorm in Roosevelt Quad? I want to major in Biology/premed but Im not happy with this undergraduate because it doesnt really have anything to do with bio/pred. Is there a way I can change my undergraduate college? Thanks.

The College of Human Development is Kelly Quad. The undergrad college really has no effect on your major whatsoever.

First, no… HDV is in Kelly Quad.

Second, your Undergraduate College has NO connection with your intended major or any classes that you’ll take other than the freshman seminar (the SBU 101/102 classes). You can request a chance by calling the Undergraduate College offices, but they placed you based on your ranking criteria, so you must have expressed some interest in HDV or you wouldn’t have been placed there.

Don’t worry about your College placement. We have pre-med folks in every residence hall on campus, so you certainly won’t be alone! Plus, the HDV advisor, Joe Robinson, is awesome, and the Kelly Cafe might be the best dining spot on campus. (Plus it’s open 24 hours a day.) You’re in very good hands there, believe me.

Chris

thanks for all the advice but I meant to say that Im in the undergraduate of global studies, not human development. So I just call and see if I can change?

Yes, you can still call to see if you can change.

Chris

About the Kelly cafe/dining being the best dining spot, I DON’T THINK SO!!! I live in Kelly Quad, Eisenhower College, and I hate the food here!!! It’s DISGUSTING!!! STONY BROOK is D- for dining experience…

So what? Are you expecting a 5 star restaurant or pig slop from McDonalds or something?

A D-?!? With 23 different places to eat on campus, there’s always SOMETHING worth getting. Jasmine has its ups and downs, but SAC pizza is always good, the burritos at the Union Commons are excellent, the grills are grills (it’s hard to screw up a grill)… really, I think campus food is pretty good.

The food at Stony Brook is on average with most Universities of comparable size.

It’s not fantastic, but it’s certainly not ‘D-’ worthy. Besides, the introduction of large chains (Wendys, California Pizza Kitchen, DD’s, Starbucks) is raising the standards.

Lowering the standards in my book. Wendys burgers are horribly oily. One CPK pizza or even panini dish will set you back 3/4 a days calories. (Their salads and pastas are just as bad).
Can’t complain about DD, except it has horrible hours.

There are plenty of low calorie foods available.

However, I will agree that the pricing is a bit extreme.

I’m sorry, but I have to agree in that Kelly is disgusting. I’m not going to say food on campus in general is bad, but I absolutely refuse to eat at Kelly. I just find it very dirty, and it smells of trash, especially in the dinning rooms. Food-wise, they also have some of the worst food on campus, though it’s not uneatable.

Also, I have to disagree in saying that the pizza in the SAC is any good. It’s greasy, fattening and never tastes good. That’s not to say that I don’t eat it, because it is convenient to grab a slice of pizza when I’m running from Humanities to Earth & Space in 10 minutes for my next class, but I would rather eat elsewhere if I had the time. Other than the pizza at the SAC, the burgers, wraps, salads, etc… aren’t that bad, albeit expensive. I don’t know how they can charge $8.99 one of the small make-your-own parfaits.

By far, the Union and Roth have the best food. The Union Deli makes the best sandwiches on campus, Picantes is always good, though greasy, and Taro 13 makes the best Asian food for miles. Roth has Wendy’s, which is very convenient when you’re on a budget, despite it being awful for you. Roth also has California Pizza Kitchen, which is simply the best food on campus without a doubt.

I’m bias when it comes to H-Quad, because I eat there all the time. Though, I love to eat the subs they make there, but they tend to make people sick for some reason. The tacos that they make there are cheaper than Picantes. Again, they tend to make me sick though. The burgers are always a good choice there, and you can’t screw a burger up.

What?! You’re crazy, it’s awesome, so much better than the Dominios that people order for events.

This I will agree is ridiculous, they need to change the pricing on it and the salads.

Haha, funny thing, Roth smelled like compost/decaying matter for a whole semester because of that stupid composting system they had/still have. Though they really do need to give kelly a renovation.

I blame the pesto mayo, that stuff is digusting and has always made me sick. So sad they also closed the subs in Roth for CPK, I loved getting a turkey BLT once a week.

I got to ask…what makes it the best food on campus for you?

I haven’t enjoyed anything from there because it just feels so blanded up with all the sauces and other crap they throw on, all thanks to glorious food science.

You guys obviously have never actually gone out and had real pizza if you think SAC pizza is good…

I’ve had real pizza (I live in a part of the city where there is a legit pizzeria aka not dominos or papa johns on every corner) but the SAC is the closest thing to real.

Kelly Dining Center will be closed starting Summer 2010 for renovation. The cafe at the new 600 bed will be opening at the end of the summer.

It won’t be closed.

Will dining services be closed during the renovation?
No. The construction of a new wing on the Kelly Caf

It’s the small attached structure towards the Roosevelt side of the 600 bed.

And, I guess FSA revised their plan on the Kelly renovation. Last year there was much talk on closing the whole facility and constructing the renovation and new addition simultaneously.

I’m not saying SAC pizza is great, but if you can’t get off campus, it’s pretty good.

CPK is good, but I would never put one of the chains as “the best place on campus.” I do miss the Roth subs too; I thought they were really good.

Chris

I for one am still mourning over the loss of the Turkey BLT from SB Subs in roth lol :frowning: Is the sub place at H Quad similar to the one that was in Roth before they replaced it with CPK? IMO the best food options on campus are (though I’ve never been to H Quads dining hall)
