Undergraduate ESSAY!

<p>Hey guys!
For the Undergraduate freshman essay, do I only need to write all that is listed in the Common APP?
So just one activity essay (less than 150 words), one personal essay (250 words min), and one optional additional information essay-like thing?
Is that it? </p>

<p>Thanks!</p>

<p>So I found out that I’m supposed to write these two essays as well:</p>

<p>Essay #1 (Required for all applicants. Approximately 250 words.)</p>

<p>Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. </p>

<p>Essay #2 (Required for all applicants. 500 words maximum.)</p>

<p>Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? </p>

<p>Do I attach this to the common app additional info section or do I mail these to them?</p>

<p>Essay #1 and Essay #2 get uploaded into the supplement</p>

<p>rule of thumb: never mail app stuff besides transcripts because it’s a pain for both you and the admissions office.</p>

<p>^ Transcripts shouldn’t even be mailed as your guidance counselors should be sending transcripts through their commonapp accounts. Keep everything paper or everythign online (unless it’s one specific part that needs to be paper)</p>

<p>Do everything on the commonapp as that is general for all schools then when you go to supplements of that specific school you’ll see the additional essay requirements and the appropriate upload spot</p>

<p>^ unless ur counselor is a tard and can’t use a comp.</p>

<p>I hated the essays and recycled as many as i could</p>

<p>i sent transcripts, recs etc on my own cuz ive heard stories about counselors losing the papers, make sure u put the school address on it tho</p>

<p>okay
so the UMich has changed a bit and its now using the common app
before, i believe, it used wolverine so there were multiple sections for essays
like. section 4: short essay 1
section 5: short essay 2
section 6: long personal essay
section 7: if youre doing the ross preadmit.</p>

<p>now UMich leads me to the common app if I click on the “apply now” tab.
so, on the common app, theres no place for me to attach my two essays except the addition section on the essay tab.
so should i write two essays on one word document and attach it to the additional section on the common app?</p>

<p>It appears that some sections of the UM Comm App are not yet up and functioning. The “supplements” (2 additional essays) are not able to be downloaded via the Common App. The school documents needed (recommendations, etc) are supposed to be able to be emailed–this link is also not yet up and working. Hell–you can’t even pay your application fee online yet! I assume that UM is not looking for applications in August, since they also require a “mid-term” report on your current grades.</p>

<p>URGHHH im applying after taking a gap year so i have all my stuff :(</p>

Just wondering. Since they said ‘Max 500’ words for Essay #2, does that mean I really can’t go over 500 words? I’ve got 600 words…

@lyhakim check out the tumblr that the admissions office has. Someone else asked and they gave a very specific answer. http://umichadmissions.■■■■■■■■■■/post/101173947192/so-approximately-250-words-means-exactly-250

@96blue Hi, thanks for replying! I’ve been to their tumblr before, but I felt as if the answer they provided was rather ambiguous. I understand that the common app will truncate anything more than 650 words, but will UMich be strict about the 500 Max Words thing?

@lyahkim I guess I don’t know for sure but mine was longer than 500 and it didn’t seem to impact me. I was admitted in EA in December.

@Jboon12345‌ CoE or LS&A? On the cds, UMich lists rigor and GPA as most important so I don’t know.
