Undergraduate Major Change

Dear CC friends, I am new to cc and I am attending USC fall 2011. I applied for Economics, but now I wanna change my major to Business Administration because I feel like studying business rather than studying economic theories now(although I like both).

If I contact the admission office, would they just put me in there?
OR...am I gonna need to do more paper work(essays and stuff) and they'll have my application re-evaluated by Marshall Business School's standards....?(I think I'm taking hugh risk if this is their procedure..)

Thank you so muchhh!

I have the same problem as you (though I chose a different major). I contacted the admissions office and they told me to contact the Marshall School of Business directly. I did but they haven’t replied yet. I’ll post again when they do.

I’m doing the same thing. If you call undergrad admissions they’ll give you step by step instructions. Basically you email Marshall with a explicit statement saying you want your application to be reevaluated for admission to the business school in Fall 2011. You will want to do that ASAP as decisions are made on May 1st, and I’m not sure what the procedure is for transfers wanting in after May 1.

And idk if this is a good place to ask, but I didn’t want to make a new thread unless absolutely necessary. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into Marshall as a freshman who hasn’t started at SC? I heard they frown upon internal transfers because it looks like students trying to trick their way into easier majors only to leave later. I honestly wasn’t even considering Marshall until I heard about the BCA program… but my math grades are pretty weak, so I doubt I’ll get in. Does anyone know how difficult it is in comparison to PR at Annenberg?

Marshall is one of the hardest to get into. I think Engineering might be the hardest, but I could be wrong…

Heyy guys, I booked the orientation and the first page says that “You have been admitted to the XXXX major. If this is not accurate or you wish to change your major, please contact the USC Admission Office prior to attending orientation. Doing this in advance will assist USC faculty and staff in personalizing your experience at orientation. (After May 1, you should contact the department you wish to change to directly.)”

I have already emailed the Change of Major request to the admission office via USC Web Mail, but they haven’t replied yet.

MA2011, wats that BCA program? I though Marshall only offers Business Administration to undergraduate students?

I think we have to finish AP calculus if we want to apply to Marshall (thank god i did)

Wait so what if our application gets reevaluated and Marshall says that we’re not good enough? Does that mean our offer of acceptance to USC will be withdrawn?

BCA is in collaboration with Cinematic Arts but its still business administration. If you aren’t good enough for Marshall, you stay at the school you originally got into, they don’t kick you out of USC lol.

Marshall School of Business offers many opportunities. It had a global emphasis long before it became popular. There is much interaction and interest in the Pacific Rim.

Marshall has academic areas within the school. These are some choices of departments:

Dept. of Finance and Business Economics
Dept. of Information and Operations Management
Loyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies
Dept. of Marketing
Dept. of Management and Organization

Marshall has some interdisciplinary joint programs unique to Marshall.

The first is a dual degree which can be completed in four years:

Business and Computer Science-This is open to first year students only

The following are offered as a B.S. in Bus. Ad with an Emphasis-Open to first year students only

Business and Cinematic Arts

Business and International Relations-Open to first year and continuing students

Marshall has a global vision. Here are some programs that are offered for a global perspective:

Global Leadership Program
Offered to high achieving freshmen-Including leadership seminar, travel to China and competitive summer internships in China

LINC Program
Unique to Marshall–Offers a two unit course in international business and an 8 day trip abroad where students meet with business executives and leaders. Past trips have included Sydney, Taipei, Hong Kong, Santiago and Singapore.

IEP-International Exchange Program
This is a one semester program with instruction in English in various universities around the world. Credit is given toward the business degree.

Marshall also has top notch support systems, including advising, faculty mentors and a student services office.

Georgia Girl, do you know any statistics about the amount of freshman transfer Marshall might accept before school begins?

I just started a thread asking if anyone had experience with Marshall School Bus Ad major combined with music industry minor. I’ll ask it here too the BCA sounds close. But Thornton has a music/entertainment industry minor that is very cool. We’ve corresponded with faculty, and they seem very sharp. Any first hand experience with that combo?

it’s not as easy as just e-mailing someone to switch your major. Marshall will have to evaluate your application again under their standards. If you don’t make it, I wouldn’t worry too much because you can always apply to transfer internally once you finish the pre reqs (if you get good grades, you have a very good chance). It’s one of the biggest schools and since you just got admitted, I’m willing to bet there aren’t many spots open, but there will be once people start switching OUT of marshall.

Oh and PR vs. Business: Annenberg is generally considered less demanding than Marshall (not to discount the efforts of any Comm majors lol…it’s just what I’ve heard from students in both schools). Good luck :)

Thank you sclove09. So after I emailed my request to them, they’ll just have my application re-evaluated and I won’t have more paper work right?

HAHA I thought they are gonna kick me out if I fail this reevaluation…thats why I was soo nervous and soo stupid~~

Has anyone gotten a reply?

We will hear around May 1st.

Oh, where’d you get that date from?

When I called/emailed Marshall, that’s what they told me :)

@MA2011
what is the email address for Marshall? I am trying to do the same thing but I can’t find the email

Ah, thanks MA2011  They didn’t even reply my emails, haha. PM me/post here when you hear?
