marshall school of business

I applied to USC as a Political Science major, and was accepted at the beginning of February with a Dean's scholarship. However- now i'm rethinking my major, and i'm really interested in majoring in business (with a concentration in marketing). Anyone know how difficult it is to switch majors?

I don't know if it's difficult, but have you considered double-majoring? That might be an easier way to get into marshall...

lol then.. you have the.... difficulty of a second major??

but more options in the future, it sounds appealing to me.

usc has the major-minor system so u can take a minor in a subject ur intersted just to see if u like it or not...

I heard that it's easier to double-major, and then decide to minor. Is this really the case?

And how overwhelming is a double-major?

yeah but double-majoring between two different schools? (i.e. Letters, Arts, and Sciences & Marshall) wouldn't that be difficult?

i've heard also that maybe i should get my major changed ASAP (like, before orientation)... but i've also heardi should get some GE done through my fresh/soph year and change it then. any thoughts?

It should be no trouble at all to change your major. In fact, USC encourages it most of the time. You will see when you meet with your advisor and start to choose classes. Don't fret. You can change :)

oh okay! i just wasn't sure, since it would be switching from Letters, Arts, and Sciences to Marshall.
Do you think I should contact the school ASAP, wait until orientation, or talk to them about it when I go down for Explore USC on April 17?
Thanks so much for your help!!

I'm doing explore on the 10th! woooo! I'll be in Hawaii on the 17th. :)

oh, I would call... just to play it safe.

i think i'll call tomorrow.
i'm still nervous though, so if anyone has any input/advice... let me know! : )

wait, are you nervous about calling?

If so, don't be. The school wants to help you, and it's not like they're going to rescind your ap for callin! :)

yeah i'm a bit nervous : )
i'll call tomorrow,
and then let you all know whats up!
(because i know you care... of course haha)

I called today, and the guy said it shouldn't be a problem as long as i fulfill the requirements for Marshall School of Business (have taken physics, etc.). I have, so hopefully I won't have any trouble! Apparently I just need to fill out a Request to Change Major form, and I'll do that when I go to Explore USC... sounds good, so hopefully he was right! : )

Physics? That is not need for business. What?

i know random. the guy didn't know what he was talking about, apparently. i think he just meant that it shouldn't be a problem, as long as i have all the HS course requirements fulfilled. (this was just the general admissions office). I also called Marshall and spoke to someone there about it, who also told me it shouldn't be a problem, and advised me to stop by the Business Admissions Office when I visit for ExploreUSC.
SirWatson, are you a current USC student?

see! I told you it wouldn't be a problem! lol

Sirwatson is a current USC student.

Like everyone else says, if you meet the requirements for a particular school, like Marshall or Viterbi, then there should be no problem switching to that respective school. The only school that you probably would have a hard time trying to switch to (if you can at all) is Cinema-Television.

thanks redski59!! it looks like i meet the requirements, so thats pretty exciting..
i'm so pumped about this (majoring in business, minoring in music industry), you have NO idea. i'm just totally EXCITED, especially now that it looks like it'll all work out!!! its gonna be SWEET... and thats no exaggeration! thanks for all your help... : )
