Undergraduate Psychology Major: Emory or McGill?

I am going to study undergraduate psychology program. In your opinion, how to compare the psychology program between those two schools: Emory and McGill in the way of the quality of education, not tuition? Thanks!

bump:)

Doesn’t matter. Undergraduate programs are not ranked, for a variety of very good reasons. And undergrad is not like graduate school; you are not going to study a particular subject. You are going to get a bachelor’s degree, with (potentially) a major course of study in psychology, but 2/3 of your classes will be outside of your major. So really, assuming that both schools have good programs in your field - and they both do! - you should select based on other factors. Note that the Canadian undergraduate experience is pretty different from the American one.

That said - and I hesitate to even say this, because I think you’ll give it outsized importance, but in the interest of full disclosure - McGill’s psychology department, in terms of graduate education and research output, is better than Emory’s. Now, graduate education and research output don’t necessarily easily translate to undergraduate education. (In fact, it could be inversely related in some ways, because faculty who spend most of their time doing research and working with grad students and postdocs will have less time for undergrads.) That said, there may be at least a bit of a positive correlation between the two, and McGill has a truly outstanding psychology department. Emory’s is also pretty good, though.

You can’t go wrong!

Thank you so much for your opinion! It’s really helpful.

other opinions? Thanks!
