Hi,

I'm trying to finalize my college list.
What are some good colleges for political science and international relations.

and also with good music programs, or very active in music.

In California, Stanford and Berkeley spring to mind. Stanford if you are an exceptionally talented student. Berkeley if you have a 3.85 GPA and a cumulative 2200 SAT score.

RML, quoting the 75th percentile SAT is not really helpful. Several thousand students are admitted by Cal with sub-1800 SAT scores.

^

That’s true; but I surmised that those students have very high GPAs, great ECs, and submitted very compelling story for their essays. Berkeley don’t weigh SATs as much as they do GPAs, unlike many elite privates that practice the reverse. There’s no guarantee to get into Berkeley – A thousand of applicants with SATs ranging from 2300 to 2400 were also rejected. Thus, in my opinion, a balance stats would help a candidate win a slot at Berkeley.

On topic: The Claremont Colleges are also great schools for social sciences, particularly political science and international relations.

I’m sorry; but I am California based.

This may help you understand how Berkeley chooses its students and how selective it is – [UC Berkeley’s ‘holistic’ application review sets the standard for system - Sacramento News - Local and Breaking Sacramento News | Sacramento Bee](http://www.sacbee.com/2011/03/24/3499621/uc-berkeleys-holistic-application.html)

Do you wish to double major in Music and Political Science/International Relations? If so, what sort of Music program are you looking for?

Finally, how are your grades, test scores (SAT/SAT II, ACT etc…) and ECs?

University of Rochester has an excellent Political Science program and the Eastman School of Music.

Tufts’ IR program is excellent, and you can do a combined degree with the New England Conservatory of Music. I’d look at USC and Rice, as well.
