Lastly, apart from giving your opinion on what my chances are, give me some constructive criticizm and possible tell what more i could do or what i could do differently. Thanknx

Anyways. Thats my first post. Help me out and ill proly get u back

Thankyou

Let me get this straight, BLACK and UNDERPRIVILEGED?

Good luck at MIT bro

You have a good shot at any of the top schools

In what world is >$80000 underprivileged? The American average is <$50000! Decent grades, normally almost no chance of getting in but these forums have thought me that your URM status is a major hook so I think your in. Good luck, wish you the best.

Is this a ■■■■■??? Brooklyn “projects”?? No project dwellers are making $80,000/year… come on now!!! This MUST be a ■■■■■!!

Another question for you… how are you at an F level school in BK but the president of the Model Congress at a prestigous school in Manhattan? This school is actually going to let some kid from an F level school from BK be president of a club? How is that possible? Something just doesn’t pass the smell test on this one…

There are a few problems I have with the OP
1.) As NewHavenCTmom said, $80K a year is not really underprivileged and would get you out of the “projects”.
2.) The grammar used in the original post is not the caliber of a student with those test scores.
3.) Stanford is not a member of the Ivy League, as the title of this thread would suggest.
4.) The OP took Earth Science has a junior, but is taking AP Chem as a senior. That seems like too big of a jump to be real.
5.) Why would such a poor school facing layoff cuts have a National French Honors Society?

There seems to be alot of criticizm surrounding my initial post. First off let me say that NO I AM NOT A ■■■■■. Secondly on the issue of income i didn’t necessarily ask my parents as to how much they make a year and i now know that they rake in about 45 thousand a year upon asking personally. Thirdly I am the model congress president IN MY SCHOOL and I WON THE OUTSTANDING DELEGATE AWARD “AT” DALTON PRIVATE SCHOOL. 4th. My school requires that i take Earth Science before A.P chemistry, I already have the recommendation and my school does not offer transitional classes between Regular and A.P levels such as honors classes. Lastly, i find it preposterous that “xcalculatin” is using my writing as a reference point to judge my intelligence and figures that I’m lying regarding my SAT scores. Because of that comment i would actually challenge your intelligence for using something as minuscule as what I type on a website to determine my performance on a standardized test where writing encompasses such a small part of the grade. Moreover if I started a newspaper club and performed averagely in AP English what makes you think that this is how i would write (or type) for a marked essay?

school link
[John Dewey High School - insideschools.org](http://insideschools.org/high/browse/school/900)

Notice the statistics on attendance,(85%) graduation rate (65%), College Enrollment: 52.1% and College Ready: 29.7%

p.s i don’t know why we have a national french honors society.

From my knowledge about nearly all NYC public schools, John Dewey High School is not an F rated school (nor has it has never been) nor is it an underprivileged school. John Dewey is a B rated school and it’s actually a high-average performing school. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Your extracurricular activities and SAT scores are impressive but I think you’re exaggerating to get a “yes” from one of the colleges you’re coveting and/or from the people on this forum. It’s not going to work. Colleges research your high school, so it’s best not to play dumb with them.

It’s either that (the exaggerating), or you’re using statistics from 2009 or something. I clicked on the link and it says 89% attendance rate, 72% graduation rate and 35% college readiness. Where are you getting these numbers from?

Regardless of this, by stating that you’re black and you go to an “underprivileged” school when in reality it’s not is not a good thing. Be honest. I think when you said “underprivileged school” you meant low-budget, because you mentioned a lot of teachers were being cut. Sad reality in NYC schools, huh?

Anyway, a lot of John Dewey graduates end up getting accepted into prestigious universities including Ivy Leagues, so it’s not a problem for you. You won’t have trouble getting into Stanford (which is not an Ivy by the way) et al. Good luck!

Good shot anywhere, although your SAT and GPA can be improved. Good luck!
