Why is that Vandy gets no love? I mean it is ranked 18th but when you tell people you go to Vandy, they are like "yea thats good." But weven with other schools like NYU, BC, Wake, GTown, people give these schools a lot of praise. Vandy seems like as if it doesnt have that much prestige, but in my opinion, I think overall for the best experience, Vandy definetely goes top 5 among all unversities.

I guess with USNEWS rankings, in addition to Vandy, schools like Emory, Notre Dame, and Rice also get no love too.

I mean GTown is 26, but it is praised to the level of an ivy.

Many people feel Vanderbilt is highly overrated. I think at least part of it has to do with it being Southern (where there's only a handful of the very elite schools) and not being represented on the top 10 lists in areas such as engineering, etc.

When you look at some of Vanderbilt's strongest suits it just doesn't get the same "oomph" as the other top schools. From US News: #14 in Biomedical Engineering (undergraduate), #17 in Medical Schools - Research (graduate), #17 for law schools (graduate), #5 for education (in Peabody, graduate). It's just edge out of the top 50 for graduate engineering.

IMO, John Thompson and Doug Flutie have had just as much impact on the top-of-mind awareness of G-town, and BC, respectively. NYU is in Manhattan; imo, NYU is over-rated, with the exception of Tisch and Stern. Note, all three schools are in popular NE cities.

I would suggest Wake would also be less known if it wasn't in a certain basketball conference.....

On a scale of 1-5, Vandy seems to rate a solid 4 in just about everything. That's great if you appreciate a well-rounded experience, but doesn't get the ink that superstar programs do.

That sounds fair. It definitely is the best in Tennessee, with the more average schools like MTSU or UT Knoxville getting 2-3's. Community colleges would probably make up 1's.
