I don’t have a green card, I’m not illegal. I have proper documentations allowing me to stay in the US… I recently graduated from a community college with my A.S. degree, and I can’t afford a 4-year university. I had to work 2 jobs while going to school full-time in order to pay for my classes. I am NOT eligible for financial aids, federal loans, and most scholarships. It is really hard and frustrating because I WANT to continue my education and pursue a career in the medical field.
Please, I’m asking for a list of scholarships that don’t require you to be a US Citizen or Resident.
You’re not an undocumented student, because you are in the country legally. You are an international student.
Did you graduate from a US high school? Some states (not all) will grant you lower instate tuition rates to their public universities if you graduated high school in that state.
I hope you’re planning to attend med school outside the US. For foreigners to be admitted into US med schools, they have to provide documentation that they have the funds to pay for all of it.
Is there a Transfer Advisor at your CC? That would be one place to start. Usually they are on top of all those kinds of things.
Your GPA would have qualified you for membership in Phi Theta Kappa at most CCs that have a chapter of that organization. You could check the PTK website for links to colleges and universities that offer PTK scholarships. Many also extend similar merit offers to students who have PTK-quality GPAs, but never joined PTK. http://www.ptk.org/default.aspx
Your GPA does put you in the range for transfer admission at some colleges and universities that do meet need for transfer applicants. If you are female, check out the Bryn Mawr College C3 program: https://www.brynmawr.edu/admissions/community-college-connection That is open to transfers from any CC.
The title of the thread reads “undocumented”, that could lead some people to think that maybe this is a DACA student. There aren’t a lot of immigration categories that permit employment, but make a student ineligible for federal aid. The only ones I can think of right off the top of my head are TPS, DACA, and some of the G visas.
People who are here through DACA are still undocumented (as they are not citizens, permanent residents or here on vsas), but they have legalized their status to stay in the country and work.
Lets wait until OP clarifies exactly what s/he is looking for before making any title changes
Right now OP is asking the correct question; documents for undocumented students (op would not be considered an international student).
take a gap year, because if you are already enrolled in a 4 -year school you are not eligible.
Apply for a Dream US scholarship, which will most likely cover in-state tuition (especially if you live in a state with a participating state university system)
Scholarship is not open yet, but you could start reading up and gathering your documents now
@CoolCake If you have TPS, I encourage you to apply to be a Golden Door Scholar. They will help you so that you can continue your education. The application process will end very soon - October 3rd, so prepare your application ASAP!
Applications received after 11:59pm EST on Monday, 10/03/16 will not be considered.
Applicants must be eligible for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) or TPS (Temporary Protected Status)
Applicants should have strong academic records. *High school and college transcripts DO NOT need to be official versions; you may scan and upload the transcript.
Applicants from states where DACA students must pay out-of-state tuition at public universities and community colleges will be given strong preference.
