Okay so here’s my situation: My mom is currently unemployed due to her illness, and with that, she doesn’t have to file taxes and I live in an one-parent household. Should I worry about not being able to receive financial aid?
Also, if this helps determine anything:
$23K/yr from disability benefits
$12K/yr received from child support
Only have one sibling, three living in the household

As of right now, these are the schools that have been accepted into and have sent my FAFSA to. Out of these four schools, only U of Minn and UIUC have offered me scholarship money: $5K per year. I haven’t heard back from Ohio State and Purdue stated that I was not eligible for scholarship consideration.
**Little background: Illinois resident, below average income (less than $24K/year).
If any other info is needed to make a more accurate decision, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Who advised you for your app list? For a low income student, this doesn’t seem like a good list.
Did you run the Net Price Calculators on these schools’ websites? If not, please run them now and post the results.
What are your stats?
I don’t see how ANY of those OOS schools will be affordable. And, even with the $5k in merit from UIUC, you still may be gapped big time. It looks like you’ll get the $5k merit, a 5700 Pell Grant, a $5500 loan, maybe $2500 in work study…and then have a very large gap.
Did you apply to ANY financial safety schools??
You posted the following in the Chances forum last Nov
[QUOTE=""]
Class rank: 10/421 GPA (weighted): 4.2093 GPA (unweighted): 3.77 ACT: 24 (eww) first time, 25 (uhhh) second time <<<

this is the problem with the Chances forum…people who respond RARELY ask the student if they can AFFORD any of these schools…and they rarely insist that you run the NPCs.
Who cares if you get accepted if they aren’t AFFORDABLE.
Why would you apply to OOS public schools that dont have monies to fund you?
Did you apply anywhere else? Being low income does not guarantee you automatic full rides at OOS schools.
Would you be willing to take a gap year and reapply to schools that would give you monies for your stats next year?
