Unemployed I-Bankers...

What happens to those guys who graduate from top MBA/undergrad schools and just can't cut it after a year or two somewhere?

Usually, you go take a 'normal' corporate job. I.e. go work in the corporate finance/accounting department of some regular company.

Is pay a big step down for these guys, or are they still making $100K a year? I'm just worried that when the time comes in a few years, I won't be able to handle it, and want to make sure that I'll be financially secure.

It is a huge step down when you have an i banking job and don't make it, but those guys still make more than 99.9% of the people on earth. Way more than $100K. The bigger issue isn't not cutting it, it is that there are so many who want the jobs and so few who get them. Getting top grades at an ivy will not help if you don't fit the mold.

I also have that question. Let's say I major in finance but don't make it to i-banking. What's the next best thing to do with a finance degree from stern?
