Unfair International Certificate of Finances

As an international applicant to RPI, I was just notified to submit a financial documentation covering at least the first two years of study (approximately USD $110,000) before March 2nd. Otherwise, my application won't be reviewed. My current education fund only covers one year expense for most top schools. It is impossible for my family to wire me the require document in such short time. I am so upset now. I was wondering if I am the only one here.

You’re not alone. When I submitted my application back in november, I included a bank statement showing about $55k. They sent me back an email 3 weeks ago requesting a financial proof to cover all expenses for 2 years (~ $110k). Realistically, this is almost impossible for many international students. Btw, I also got a medalist scholarship, which guaranteed $15k/year. But this requirement basically kills my hopes of going there. I’m totally with you: it is unfair.

I know!!

I will probably be rejected only because I did not get in my bank statement in time…

Sooo true!!

I mean, No other insti, as far as I k ow, asks more more than 1 year of financial proof. I do have financial documents that show that I can afford 3~3.5 years of education at RPI. What they didn’t realise was that it was a saving account and the money keeps increasing at a variable percentage each year. So that was I can afford upto 5 years of education at RPI. But the dumbasses don’t realize this.

I had submitted all the forms they had asked for but I got a mail a week back that I was supposed to show the proof again ( IN LIQUID FORM).

Utter BS by RPI.

@compscifan:

so did u receive an email saying that the result was gonna come out this Sat?

Yes I did.
The e-mail that these guys sent us (financial one) does not mention a particular deadline to resubmit the international financial statement.
Who says that there’s a March 2 deadline for it, if you’ve submitted it once already?

yep…I submitted the initial one at the end of Dec., and I was told to send a new one before Mar. 2nd.
well, I just sent out the new one few days ago…

Same here, I barely had enough to cover two years of funding! Of course my overall savings do amount to a little over 110k, but my parents aren’t going to spend all their savings on my education! When I emailed RPI asking if assets could be listed in the statement, they said that everything had to be liquid. So yeah, I ended up listing nearly most of my savings in the statement.
It sucks that RPI doesn’t give financial aid for international students :(
