Unhappy with dorm placement

My D is freaking out because she wound up at the Mount Vernon Campus. It is not what she wants for her GW experience. Frankly, I'm not too happy either. She called and was told to wait until Colonial Inauguration but I think that's too late. Anyone have experience successfully lobbying for a campus change as a freshman?

Friend of ours did manage to get son's placement changed from a dorm he disliked into another mainly upperclass dorm, though it cost more.

how did your daughter find out her dorm? i've yet to hear back and am now a little concerned...

We received a letter by snailmail today. I don't like the upperclass dorm option too much either.

That is scary, my daughter would be very unhappy if she ended up at Mt. Vernon. Hope that isn't a trend. Good luck getting it changed, let us know how you make out.

CTDAD860-Mt Vernon, as a smaller, more condensed environment is a great place for freshmen to get to know each other. I know people in my D's class who felt it was the best place to start. I know it's not what your D envisioned, but she really may love it. There is a room swap list that becomes available for those who want to try to trade with someone and keep in mind your D has 3 additional years for her GW experience.

S received mail about Mt. Vernon even before the housing deadline. He thought he still had time to change as stated on the dorm page. I am very upset.

I don't understand about the dorm placement, we were supposed to learn about it in July, are we missing something? Is anything other than snail mail already posted for you all? Mine is empty

It's a little bizarre to me that you've heard already as the housing application closed on Wednesday (it was extended from the 20th to the 27th)...hmm, when did you submit it originally?

Probably around 3 weeks ago...right after we sent in the deposit.

Is your kid a student athlete? Many of them prefer Mt Vernon due to the majority of the fields being there..
What were his/her choices if I may ask? Was it by themes, or by buildings?

from what i have seen only people who have listed MV dorms somewhere on their list have been placed there. So in order to be placed on MV you would have had to shown some interest in living there.

My S listed MV as second choice to Thurston and was informed he'd be out there. I oversee a college housing system of 3,000+ students and am pleased he'll be on a genuine campus for his 1st year. Finding a sense of community in that 1st year is critical to success.

And, I know from doing it myself that granting everyone's top request is just not possible.

I agree totally Rev. It is an impossible task I am sure. But when one, albeit not the main, reason why you want GW is the city life then you can understand the disappointment...
