This is a post about me not being happy with a grade that I just received today for a class. I was hoping to get a b or even a c, but sadly I was given a grade that is making me unhappy. This teacher who I will call Ms.Conner gave me a D for my final grade I asked her why and she said that just because I didn’t turn in one little thing she decides to fail me. Now I don’t believe that is fair because of the fact that even though I missed one class, she has the right to fail me, I don’t think so, at the college that I attend I have never had a problem with a teacher before but I don’t know what to do.
Does the course syllabus describe the grading scheme? The syllabus ideally would describe the components of the grade and tell how much the missed “little thing” is worth. If the little thing is worth 20% of your grade, for example, that could lower you from a B to a D.
If there is a grading policy announced in the syllabus and your instructor isn’t following it, then check at your university to see if there is a grade appeal process.
Also, you could ask your instructor if you could still get some credit (even half credit) for handing in the work late. She might say no, but you could ask.
the syllabus does describe that but the teacher could have given the classes two choices either do the rewrite or keep the grade that was given in the first place.
What does the syllabus say, specifically?
If the policy is laid out in the syllabus and the teacher was merely following it, it’s not really unfair.
The syllabus says that there are four papers throughout the semester but does not say anything about redoing the papers.
Why would that help you if there was? You wouldn’t be “redoing” it, you’d be doing it for the first time.
it was a rewrite, but with an English class that wanted a paper every few weeks it was hard to keep track of the assignments
Got a D in organic. Not happy with my grade, but just move on and retake the course.
Oh, my, I think you have bigger problems than one class grade.
^ yes, and the OP needs to pay more attention to deadlines.
Dude. I had a class called organizational behavior. That class was time consuming and passed every class this semester. 1A 2B and 1 C.
“it was hard to keep track of the assignments”
Definitely not an excuse.
Doesn’t the syllabus specify the deadlines? Get a huge calendar and write the assignments and due dates on there. Do the assignments early in case something comes up.
