there are a ton of sports type pubs in Chicago he won’t have an issue finding a place.
A tip for anyone driving into Chicago–try booking your parking spot in advance. It’s cheaper and you’ll drive feeling confident that you have a place to park. Parking lots in the Loop tend to fill up, and you don’t want to be driving around looking for a spot when your audition times are coming up. Try SpotHero or ParkWhiz. Also, if you’re not familiar with the city, bring a printed map as GPS is not always reliable among the sky scrapers or in underground parking lots. Note too, that the Palmer House parking lot is reserved for Palmer House guests. I’m not sure if you will qualify to park there unless you are staying in the hotel overnight.
Chicago or bust! Walking out the door in a few to jump on the plane! Break legs everyone!
Break legs, Chicago unified peeps!!! (but not literal legs, like the woman in New York!)
Wishing you all the best of auditions – and everyone at the top of their game!
Break legs everyone! The weather looks MUCH better this year than last … we are in kind of a snow drought this year.
Lots of successful audition vibes!!
BAL!!!
Checked out unifieds with my junior D this year. Got to see which schools were at the Palmer but saw some running around to other hotels which we didn’t go check out. We heard that the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland was at the Westin and knew some kids that headed over to Roosevelt to audition, but can anyone tell me who else was around town auditioning in places other than the Palmer House? Thanks!
Syracuse was at the Marriott two years ago.
@ourturn2… Millikin was at The Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, and Manhattan School of Music was at the American Rhythm Center.
NYU and Boston were at other hotels two years ago too.
Rutgers and Juilliard, both straight acting programs, among others, were at the Hyatt Regency.
Was trying to estimate how many kids were there this weekend. It was a lot but I don’t think the 2000 I had heard previously.
D’s friend got to Chicago to audition for Columbia (on campus) on Saturday. She loved it.
It seemed like a lot of people there. I’m not sure if it was near 2,000 people. I felt the atmosphere in general in the halls was chaotic and intense. You can hear people singing from the various conference rooms in the halls. I counted five times where I was sitting waiting to go in the audition room that I was hearing some girl singing Astonishing from Little Women from inside somewhere else.
A lot of the kids were really friendly and people came from all over the country with the same common goal
SUNY Purchase, BU, Harvard, Yale Drama, U of M, NYU (although I think U of M and NYU had 2 locations?) were at the Hyatt - a short death-defying taxi ride away. Roosevelt auditions were on campus. Hard to estimate ## of kids - I kept seeing the same kids over and over - but 2,000 seems a bit on the high side.
Do they allow Juniors at Unifieds? I thought it was only for Seniors.
I don’t know of a rule across the board regarding Unifieds per se. If you meet a given school’s/program’s qualifications, then you can audition for them on-campus or at another audition location. If a junior is ready to graduate, then a junior can audition. Anyone, regardless of age, can walk around the Palmer House and check out the scene.

I got the feeling they were just scoping it out. I have heard of juniors doing that in the past. @ourturn2 ?
