@mtmamma2020 - there was a thread in years past dispelling this as rumor. Don’t lose hope. While I think many kids auditions support the rumor, enrolled students have said some of their auditions didnt fit that You won’t know until a decision is reached. And faculty consistency deny this is their process and encourage people not to read into it. Good luck and glad your D had a good experience.
In our session in NYC Barbara made a point of saying that rumor was not true and also said that Don was now in charge. My son was auditioning for straight acting and he was passed to both rooms and asked in both rooms to do four monologues and sing (again - not a musical theatre kid) - so it just goes to show that there really is no pattern to any of it nor do i read anything into what happens in the rooms.
My S saw Barbara yesterday in LA and thought she was really wonderful and genuine. He did two monologues and she has him sing his ballad a cappella to get a sense of his emotions when singing! Lots of compliments, but he wasn’t sent to Don. He said a few girls saw her first and then Don…
I’m confused, so if you want to major in MT and most of your favorite colleges aren’t officially registered, you should go anyways because they probably are there?
@BroadwayK - yes – there are many MT programs who will hold auditions in the same city on the same dates as the official Unified auditions, yet they are not listed on the Unifieds website. Sometimes they are even held in the same hotel/building. Unfortunately, the only way to figure out if the schools in which you are interested will be in one of the unified cities on the same dates as unifieds is to check each school’s audition dates and locations on their website or by calling them. Do not rely on who has gone in years past as schools do change their audition schedules from year to year. So make sure you find out directly from each school in which you are interested.
Be aware at Unifieds, you still have to schedule individual auditions with each school for which you want to audition. You will have separate auditions for each. The only thing “unified” is that these schools have agreed to be in the same location on the same dates to hopefully help MT applicants be able to travel less and audition for more schools.
Again, check with each individual school to find out what your options are as to when and where you can audition for them.
Also, be aware not all schools attend all locations for Unifieds. So really check to make sure where the schools you want to audition for will be and when.
It is confusing. But with a little research, you will be able to plot out a schedule that makes sense for you. Make a spreadsheet with all of your schools. Note all of the dates and locations for their auditions. Then start to make a schedule that makes sense for you and your family. Try to request your audition dates early so you get the dates you want. They do have limited spots so you don’t want to miss out.
vvnstar, that is excellent advice. May I suggest to you and BroadwayK that you repost these comments on the new thread I just started, Unified Auditions 2017? It would be a great way to start that thread.
Thanks!
