Unifieds Chicago 2017

Check each school carefully. If there are no rules, as long as you can see the body line, jazz pants are acceptable. Some schools are very very picky and follow the rules carefully; I saw all types of colored leo’s, black, etc. but again, check each school’s requirements. Good luck!

@mardeen, my daughter wore black dance leggings and a bright red halter-like top. Like mtmamma2020 said “as long as you can see the body line”

I read advice to wear a similar colored leotard as audition dress/top. More chance of the schools making the connection you are the same person. Made sense to me.

We’ll be there, from Saturday the 4th and checking out Thursday. Should we all wear red carnations or something?

Winter musical is the 4th so driving in on the 5th! It’s gonna be close, gah. Yes we should find a way to recognize each other! We check out Thursday also.

We just finalized our schedule! We’re not coming in until the 7th, leaving on the 10th. Then we’ll drive to Illinois Wesleyan for on-campus audition on the 11th. I can’t believe it’s finally our turn!!! [-O<

Yikes! Things are getting real!!

Yeah, things are getting VERY real! We fly in on the 4th and then fly out on the 9th to head east for two more auditions. I’m trying to hold off the stress dreams of leaving something important behind at home. :-S

Has anyone attended both NY Unifieds and Chicago Unifieds? For those who may be preplanning it would be good to know the pros and cons including, LA.

Yes, so getting real - one more week! We are flying in from LA on 2/5 and flying home the morning of 2/10 and then settling right in to the Westin for three more days for the Unifieds here. Then on campus auditions the following two weekends. It feels surreal!

We are flying into Chicago on 2/5 and leaving on 2/10. I am not familiar with the Chicago area at all. Do we need a rental car? I am assuming not but wanted to find out from those that might know the area.

@sabersunshine, no rental car needed. Three years ago we took a cab to the hotel and to a couple of auditions not at the Palmer House and otherwise walked for food and shopping. We stayed at the Palmer House.

@sabersunshine you can take the train right from the airport. It’s the orange line, I believe. Best way to navigate is to put your destination in Google maps and click on the picture of the bus. It tells you how long the walk is to/from the stop (never long) and when the train/bus arrives and departs. Super easy. You can buy a multi-day pass right at a kiosk before you get on the train. Parking is very expensive - I think palmer house said $45/day for self park and $75/day for valet - so I would caution against a rental car.

Not unless you’re staying way out near the airport. (Most of the hotels in Chicago are either way out near O’Hare, inside the loop or in River North. Everything in the loop or River North is either walking distance or a quick El ride away from the Palmer House.)

It’s the blue line from O’Hare, the Orange from Midway. You can buy a ventra card at the station in the airport.

We went to Chicago and LA last year. Oh my gosh what a difference! Chicago is packed! Busy, kids everywhere and parents too! LA was very very chill (similar to the beachy vibe haha). I couldn’t believe how fewer kids were there, how easy it was to change, walk in, etc. The downside of LA is all the auditions are not in the same spot – but we live here so that wasn’t a big deal. Uber is huge here, so that would be my recommended way to scoot from one hotel to another – unlike chicago – DON’T WALK HERE! In Chicago, we had to go to Joeffrey for a dance call and I know a few others had to go a few blocks here and there, but most of the auditions are at the Palmer. Enjoy!

Hi there- I’m a student who’ll be auditioning at Chicago Unifieds (so excited!) and I had some questions about walk-ins that maybe some of you could answer? I’ll be staying in a hotel other than the Palmer House, and on the first day I have three auditions, none of which have dance calls, and the earliest is 11:15. So I’ll have a nice chunk of free time I could use on walk-ins! I was just wondering what time would be good to show up at the hotel in the morning to browse for any schools offering walk-ins? I’m not counting on any schools having them, but if any do, program I’ve heard of or not, I think it would be a good opportunity.

I’d get there around eight when people are setting up.

Like @Jkellynh17 says! 8:00 would be perfect - you will catch people as they set up and can quickly move from table to table (and floor to floor) before it gets crowd. My D signed up for 3 walk ins on Monday morning. She started at around 8.

Do they refresh the walk-in sheets daily or is Monday morning at 8:00am the best opportunity for the entire week? Excited and nervous!
