Monkey13 I just want to speak up against your point. “The issue here is that many of the kids were told (by other students) that if you started in Kaf’s room for monologues, and did not get passed onto Barbara, you will not get in. The passing on to Barbara is kind of like a call back.”
I worked all 4 years running the auditions at school, and worked with them this past year in New York unifieds. This is just not a true statement. As someone who is now into their 5th year working for them and having experienced it myself, it just is not true. There are kids who I went to school with who didn’t see Barbara or only saw Barbara, and there are kids who went to both. It isn’t an indicator of whether or not they’re getting in. There really is no rhyme or reason to this. If only it was something as simple as that haha.

Thanks for chiming in about that, CarnegieMT2012. Mythology can take on a life of its own. Posters, let’s all remember this thread when the admissions and denials come in, and report back about an correlation we might discern at that point.

(My son auditioned for Kaf at the NY Unifieds and didn’t see Barbara…)

As I said in my post, CarnegieMT2012, I would love to be proven wrong! (Note that I did NOT say that we had heard kids who only saw Barbara did not get in. We heard, as did many, many others, that if you started with Kaf and did not get passed to Barbara, you would not get in.) My D has a friend in the CMU MT program, and he told her no one in his year got in without being seen by Barbara. Could he be wrong? I suppose so. Could all the posters from last year be wrong who said the same thing? Let’s hope so!

I agree with prodesse. Please come back and let us know if you got into CMU without being seen by Barbara! It would be great to dispel this myth.

Thanks CarnegieMT2012! It’s such a game we play here trying to figure out the method to their madness. It will be what it is in the end I suppose. I appreciate you sharing your experience and helping to dispell some of the myths. Remember, those who post here are only a fraction of those who audition at these programs. A small fraction at that! I will let you know how things go for my D, though she did a campus audition and not Unifieds. She auditioned for Barbara only. (Well and she sang for someone too–not Gary but I can’t remember the name right now, but she only did her monologues for Barbara)
