Just finished watching another AF loss to Navy and am wondering about the lack of uniformity among the cadets.

What is the significance of eighth [?] company [wing?] who seem to be dressed in jerseys rather than uniforms. And what is the deal with those who are shirtless?

Why are some cadets wearing the dress cover [the bus-driver hat] and others wearing a cap? Over the same uniform?
Still others seem to be permitted to wear a BDU.

it's called section 8, the huge cheering base we take to other games and also use here at usafa. they're allowed to wear their own gear... the specified hat for the march-on is always the service cap (wheel cap, bus driver hat, etc) but once you get in the stands, you can put on your flight cap (pointy one). the guys in BDUs were manning the squad grills before the game, because there's no way you'd do that in blues.

Section 8 is a club. They are a spirit group that dress up for the games. Blue Face, wild hair etc. If you join you can travel to see games and be a little crazy.

The uniform differences can depend on special activities being performed by the cadets. EMT duty, Cooking at the tailgates, etc.

Yeh, I thought Section 8 was the whole MASH* thing going on but then do any of these kids know what that means? Klinger....psycho discharge?

Anyone have trivia info on how long AFA has had Section 8 and the authentication for the name? Got to love 'em!

I am still a little curious about the little group to the far right near the band that is always dancing / acting REALLY crazy. I asked a cadet about it and he said they are just crazy people and no specific group or club.

Well from our side of the field they seem to be about the only 4 digs really enjoying themselves so a few of us preppies want in on that next year.

from what i remember from the last couple years, its not a random group of cadets. i'm pretty sure its the swim teams, who always "sit" there and dance and go crazy.

it was great to be back for the game. although i still wish more people knew the lyrics to and sang along with the falcon fight song... fly ye falcons down the field....
