My essay topic is kinda unique too, so if you still want people to read it, let me know! Maybe it'll be the motivation I need to get it done by Nov. 1. I can send you mine if/when I finish if you want.

Ill read, pm it to me!

I hope that the essays don't use a modifier to "unique," such as "very unique." Unique means one of a kind and thus it is ungrammatical to modify the word with "very," etc.

The reason why I said that the student should not use a modifier to "unique," is that the use of such a modifier is a common grammatical mistake, which could undermine the essay.

It is a personal grammatical pet peeve and I see it a lot in the essays I grade.

Besides advising on students' ideas and themes, I think we should encourage them to pay attention to grammar. I can assure you that admissions officers will notice grammatical lapses.

Jyankees, just PMed you back. Hope it helps a little!

i'll read it :) pm

sure ill help

Thanks everybody, PMed to all!

momfromme, thanks for pointing out my errors. I'm actually very grammatically correct in everything I do

Actually, unique CAN be modified, just not in its most common definition

Dictionary.com's 5th definition is: not typical; unusual: She has a very unique smile.

Very unique...well, look at that. I surely was not implying that my essay has NEVER been done before, to do so is both naive and arrogant. I WAS implying that my essay is rare. Therefore, I don't believe that I was grammatically incorrect. Thank you so much for pointing this out to me and acting as if I were the worst example of grammatical fallacy ever, though; that was in no way uncalled for.

I agree with momfromme.

You shouldn't have to justify anything...if someone things there's a mistake, then colleges won't take a second glance either.
