unique recommendation issue

Everyone, I have a slightly unique letter of rec issue I would appreciate your thoughts on.

I took two history classes with a professor who i know can write me a stellar recommendation. But due to whatever issues, i dont know what, but he isnt a professor anymore he's just a lecturer. That said he has a PhD. I know that you should get recs from people who know you and your work quality the best etc, but should I ask him for a rec? My other options are a sociology 101 grad student who can write me another stellar rec, an econ 420 professor who can write me a good but not stellar one and a first year seminar teacher who i can also ask, but then again it was for a first year seminar.

I plan on applying to ivy league schools so I am hoping to get the best recs i can...I would really appreciate your advice.

Ask him. That works. I had an uncle, two profs and a Cardinal from the Catholic Church of Detroit write me letters. I got in... so no harm no foul

There's no problem. Back in my day when I applied to Cornell...I only needed an advisor recommendation. So....I had my advisor and my research mentor write me letters.

As long as he can attest to your academic achievement and capabilities there's no harm in having him write the letter.

thanks guys, i'll go ahead and ask the history prof/lecturer to write one of my recs.

Just agreeing with all of the others who have said - choose the one(s) who know you best and can write the strongest rec. Don't be concerned with their credentials.
